SOLVED. House that moves through time. [s]

this book was a reader for my jr college english class in the late 1970's. A man inherits(?) a house near a waterfall. he and his dog explore and find a cave at the bottom, that was inhabited by some kind of primordial beings. I remember them being white, scary, and they chased him back up the waterfall. When he returned to his house he began to notice things were changed. Time was different. the light coming through his window. the dust gathering on his belongings. as he sat in his chair, he watched his dog die and disintegrate. he watched the landscape around him change and alter as the house moved through the eons of time, until he came to the end of the world. I believe it was in first person. I do not believe there were any other characters in the book. I do not remember if he returned to his normal time, but it seems he may have.
I have thought about this book many times over the last 30 or so years, and would love to see it again. I have tried to remember the title, I believe it is something like, "the house at the edge of time", but searching variations of this idea have not gotten me very far. I hope you can help!

This sounds like The House on the Borderland (1908) by William Hope Hodgson.

Some parts of what you describe happen in the classic SF The Time Machine.
The moving through time and watching things / animals wither and die, also the primordial beings (called Morlocks), also the eons till the end of the world happen in the book.
But then there is no dog, I think, and no waterfall and while the time machine stays in place in a house it is not really the house that is moving through time, but the time-machine, although that can be seen as a matter of perspective.
And I cannot remember both a waterfall nor a dog, though I could be wrong. From the movie (old one) I distinctly remember one scene, which I think was 1:1 from the book: how the hero sits in the time-machine and watches a shop-window on the other side of the street with clothes-styles changing through the time.

It might be a sequel or something based on ideas from this book, but in this Wikipedia-article nothing is mentioned of a dog nor a waterfall . Maybe it is still of help.

Yes, Lovecraft was definitely a part of this class, but I am almost sure Wyn nailed it. I believe it is the house on the borderland. Thank you all for all your help! Marveloous!
