She smiled with a gentle nod as she looked at him "thank you again lord." She said, she was glad that he was taking care of her unlike some Vikings.

He finished up cooking the meat he had on the fire and took it off. He put some salt and a few other spices on it for a little flavor and put it on the table. Ingrid had already gotten the table set and was laying out bread as well. "Ah, the meal looks wonderful. Shall we eat?" He asked, rubbing his hands together.
Ingrid waited for him to begin eating before she even sat down and was eating, in her village the men would always eat first, it was a sign of respect to let the men eat before women.
Mareth noticed Ingrid wait before she sat down and started eating. To his understanding this was an Anglican way of showing respect. "Er, Ingrid, some Vikings find it offensive when they are not joined at dinner as it means they eat alone, and it is shameful to eat alone. I know you do not know this, but just a heads up. There is no need to apologize to me as I don't much care, I've eaten alone almost every night for, oh, I've lost track of the years, but I just wanted to warn you." He said, just wanting to inform her of the ways of his people.
Ingrid looked across the table at mareth when he explained what she had done, instantly she felt horrible and wished she had of known. "Sorry lord." She said although he assured her not to appologise
"It is quite alright, anyway, after I introduce you tomorrow, you will be my equal so do not do anything to give the impression that you aren't. You must act like a friend. So, you must call me Mareth while they are here and you should wear the best clothes you got from the market, understood?" He asked, looking for any confusion her face might show.
She looked at mareth, listening closely to what he was saying, it was clear to her what he was asking though she felt it wrong. Yet, she also liked it. "Yes lord, I will. I understand." She assured him with a gentle nod and smiled, he was really trying to welcome her in and it made her feel welcomed
After dinner, Ingrid insisted on cleaning up. Mareth was extremely tired from the days workout and was considering heading to bed."Ingrid, i am quite tired, I believe I will be going to bed soon. Is there anything you need?" He asked through a yawn.
Ingrid looked over at mareth when he told her he would be going to sleep, she smiled with a soft shake of her head "I am ok, thank you very much. Good night lord" she said to him
"Goodnight Ingrid, sleep well and have sweet dreams, I believe your spot on the floor is still there and you can sleep there if you like." And with that, Mareth stepped into his room, taking of his shirt and hopping under the covers, sighing softly as sleep overcame him.
Ingrid was smiled gently as he offered her to take the make shift bed from the night before, she thought about it though was a little unsure about it also, maybe she should stay in the other room, though she still felt comfort when around him rather than away from him. She let him head off to bed whilst she finished cleaning up the home, closing the door and windows then putting the latch over them as a lock, she was quiet as she snuck into his room and laid comfortably into the makeshift bed
Mareth woke up slowly. The light filtering through the window was weak and dim. It must have still been very early, but this was the perfect opportunity to invite he's friends over. He knew they always worked their garden early in the morning. He got dressed and headed over. He talked to Vikus and Solovet, and they graciously accepted his offer. When he got back, he made some oatmeal.
Ingrid was still fast asleep in her make shift bed, dreaming of a new future, hopefully a good new future. When mareth awoke she was still asleep, having gone to bed later than he
After he finished making oatmeal, Mareth walked back into his room to wake Ingrid. "Ingrid, breakfast is prepared. You may sleep more, but I fear your oatmeal may get cold." He said gently, shaking her shoulder.
She woke when he gently shook her shoulder, she looked over at him and smiled before she got up "thank you lord. I will come.@ she said
When Ingrid came into the kitchen, he served her oatmeal, and jokingly added, "My lady." Giving a bow, then cracked up in laughter at the expression on Ingrid's face, it was just too priceless.
Ingrid looked at mareth as he sat down with his oatmeal, he called her what? She was surprised and confused again, her smiled faltered as he called her lady "t-thank you lord."
Mareth chuckled heartily, and said, "oh do not look so flustered, haha, you are funny Ingrid! Anyway, our company will be arriving at 4:00 so we berptter clean up the place. I'll clean the floor, and you clean the counters ok?" He directed, in a good mood.
Ingrid smiled when she looked at him once again then nodded as she ate her oatmeal. "Certainly, shall we pick some flowers for the vase?" She asked him
"Ah, great idea! We shall get some flowers to place in the kitchen, wonderful idea! I shall leave you in charge of that." He said, smiling at her idea.
She smiled with a gentle nod as she looked around the main room and began to clean up after having her oatmeal for breakfast. She did as he had asked and made sure to clean up other parts of the home, she then went out to the garden trying to find some nice flowers
Ingrid and Mareth tidied up the house and it looked great by the end of the day. The flowers Ingrid had picked were pretty. About an hour before they were expecting company, they both took their turns washing up and putting on some nice clothes. There was a knock on the door and Mareth turned to her and said, "you are my equal ok? Remember that, and enjoy yourself." And with that, he opened the door.
Ingrid looked back towards Mareth when there was a knock on the door, she breathed in deeply then nodded softly "yes Mareth." She said although it felt strange, she hoped to get use to it maybe.
Mareth opened the door, bowing slightly to his company. "Ah yes! Solovet! Vikus! So nice to see you! How are you? We have some good food prepared! Lamb, greens, Swiss and more!" Mareth said heartily, smiling at his friends.Vikus smiled and gave a chuckle at Mareth. He was always a jovial fellow but was a little isolated. "Mareth! So good to see you! We cannot wait to dine with you! Oh, and who is this?" Asked Vikus, motioning towards Ingrid.
Ingrid stood a little bit away from mareth when he opened the door, she smiled softly when looking st their guests, she was still nervous though she was happy to meet someone. When Vikus addressed her she smiled softly and gave a quick small bow. "My name is Ingrid." She said Solovet stepped inside the hut behind her husband, smiling happily at mareth. "Thank you for the offer to come, we like dining with you." She said happily before glancing over at Ingrid, smiling at her. "Nice to meet you, I am Solovet."
Mareth watched as his friends greeted Ingrid, and then ushered them inside saying, "oh it is our pleasure to have you over, thank you for coming." As he poured water for the table.Vikus walked in and shrugged on his coat, placing it on the chair next to him. He studied Ingrid hard, looking her up and down, trying to decide if she was just Mareth friend, or maybe something more. He had seen the glint in his friends eye when he looked at her.
Ingrid smiled sweetly as they stepped into the home, she looked back towards Mareth as he pouted the water. "Shall I get the read for us?" She suggested Solovet glanced at her own husband again before she then looked at mareth and Ingrid, she took her own coat off and placed it down beside her husbands. "It's very nice to be here." She said
"Ah yes, that would be wonderful Ingrid, thank you!" He said, giving her a smile. "So what have you two been up to, Solovet and Vikus?" Asked Mareth as they brought food to the table."Ah the same old same old I'm afraid. Tending the garden, running the herb shop, and prescribing rudimentary remedies for the more common illnesses that seem to ail us every so often. When the apothecary gets swamped, some folks come to us for herbs and such." Responded Vikus.
Ingrid looked at the couple as she placed the food onto the table "you have a garden too? Oh I love gardens. I will be attending to Mareth's attempt of one." She said to them happily Solovet smiled when she sat down and looked at the two people, allowing the men to talk.
Mareth laughed at ingrids joke, and said, "I'm glad I have my friend Ingrid here to look after my own little garden, or else I fear it would not grow!" Said Mareth jovially.Vikus laughed at his friend, remembering trying to show him how to grow foods, "ah, Solovet, so you remember trying to teach Mareth to grow simple vegetables? Ah, good memories." He said, still smiling.
Ingrid smiled as she felt a little more comfortable while being there, she looked at mareth again before she took a seat at the table. "I believe he would need a lot of help." She said softly Solovet laughed gently when she thought and remembered how she had to teach and show mareth what to do but he was still terrible. "Yes yes I remember."
"Ah cmon guys! I can't be that terrible, can i?" Mareth asked innocently, receiving a round of smirks and smiles from the others, which in turn, made Mareth smile as well."Martha my friend, you better serve on the battle field not in the garden. Although you do seem to love natural beauty. Ah, do you remember that meadow you told me about? You never showed it to me or told me where it is, but you said you would have your wedding there some day. He's never shown anybody, and most in the village don't believe it exists, but he claims it is beautiful." Vikus told Ingrid.
Ingrid giggled when he tried to back himself up but was terrible at it, she then glanced across the table at vikus, smiling a little "oh really, I'd like to hear about this meadow, and maybe see it." She said, she acted like she hadn't heard about it or seen it. Solovet smiled again "I would really love to see this meadow too, Iv only heard about it though I don't believe it's real." She teased him
Mareth blushed and gave a glance at Ingrid when the subject came up. "Oh I promise it is real. And as for my wedding, I'll be sure to invite you all so you finally will believe me, that is if I ever find one to marry. It truly is beautiful." He said, visualizing his meadow.Vikus just laughed heartily as he watched Mareth, thinking that It was funny that he didn't have a wife. "Yes, why is it you have not married Mareth? You do not look THAT bad." He said jokingly.
Solovet laughed gently at her own husbands comment then she looked at mareth again. "Yes why are you still alone?" She asked him "you have some nice features." She teasedIngrid laughed softly but didn't say much and didn't make too much comment. "Marriage takes tomeSl she said
Mareth thought a moment. "Well, I'm not quite sure. I mean, I may have my eye on a girl but it is somewhat complicated and I just have not had the time I guess. I mean, I would like to but it has just not come about." He replied.Vikus raised his eye at Mareth. "A girl eh? How have you not seen her sooner? It is not like anyone new has come about." He said to Mareth. Vikus knew the girl he was talking about was Ingrid. He'd seen how Mareth blushed when he'd mentioned the meadow, and how he had looked at Ingrid earlier. Poor Mareth was never bold or good with love interests though. Not like he'd had many.
Solovet looked across at her friend, smiling proudly "oh our dearest mareth, you must speak how you feel to her." She said happily. "You do not know, she may love you back." She said Ingrid rose back up from the table, checking on the food which was lastly cooking, almost complete. She glanced back at the small group, listening softly. She hadn't noticed much about the way in which mareth looked at her though she knew there was something intriguing about him to her.

Mareth sighed as the questions came. "Well, i guess she is new... but that is besides the point. And it is much harder than you'd think, speaking how you truly feel to someone. It is complicated and quite daunting. But you might have a point there solovet, it would be much easier." He ceded, gazing pensively at the table."O surely it would be Mareth. Say you go off one of these battles and don't come back. Dot you want this special someone to know how you feel?" Asked vikus, getting a kick out of Mareth's obvious discomfort.

"It would be sweet if you were to tell her before another battle. You never know when you might be back or it." She said to him with a gentle smile, looking at Ingrid "what do you think Ingrid?" She asked, watching the girl bring the food over. Ingrid looked over at Solovet when she was suddenly spoken to. "Me? Oh I.. if I was the girl I would want to know.. or if I were the one to say I would like the other to know." She said softly, placing a plate in front of Solovet
Mareth listened intently to what Ingrid said. If she were the one, she'd want to know. That settles it then, he would tell her, as soon as the guests left. "I guess I'll look into it then, as it seems to be the popular opinion." He sighed, a new kind of nervousness building up in his stomach.The food was served and dinner was eaten. When a good deal of food and laughs had been had, virus said, "oh I fear it is late and time for us to head out. We shall see you both around my friends." Standing up from the table.
Ingrid turned her attention back to vikus as he mentioned it was late and time to head on home, she smiled softly when she got up from the table, looking at the couple. "It was very lovely to have you over and to meet you both." She said to them kindly Solovet smiled at her new friend when she grabbed her coat of furs "it is nice to have a new friend." She said to her happily
After they said their goodbyes and thanked them for coming over, Vikus and Solovet left, leaving Mareth alone with Ingrid. Mareth had been waiting patiently all dinner to say what he was about to say, and he didn't think he could stay quiet another second. As they started clearing the table, Mareth decided it was now or never. "Hey, Ingrid, I want to tell you something. I... Er... we've known each other for less than a week and our situation is quite unique. And I just, I want to tell you something. I... I like you. Like, my heart skips a beat, my palms get sweaty, and a feeling I can't explain. I know this is probably really forward and everything but you said that if it was you, you'd want to know. Well, now you know," he said, catching his breath and nervously waiting for a response.
Ingrid felt rather happy to feel like she may be able to fit in somewhat here, to feel like she might belong one day, she had now met two strangers who were now her friends and they made her feel welcomed. It had really soothed her feelings from the previous days. She helped to clear up the wooden table of the dishes until mareth stopped them both, she looked at him as she smiled and held a plate in hand. Still so happy from the evenings turn out. As he went on to explain she began to grow butterflies in her stomach and her heart picked up in pace. She was the one. The girl he was speaking of earlier. It was certainly a unique situation they were in, and they had only known each other a week, but, something inside her was telling her she felt the same way. All she wanted was to be close to him, by his side, day and night. "Me?" She questioned softly, as he gave her a nod in agreement her smile grew slightly. "I think I feel the same." She said quietly
Mareth was relieved to hear those words. He was so excited that he stepped forward and wrapped Ingrid in a hug. He could feel her initial surprise, but she set the plate on a nearby counter and returned his hug. Realizing he was probably scaring her a little he stepped back a tiny bit and said, "Er, sorry, I got a little excited. Well, I'm happy to hear Ingrid. I have been somewhat obsessing over this for the last few days and it is more than a relief to hear you say that. I just, I just want to be with you. You're so smart, kind, strong and pretty. No other girl I've met has had what you have. I don't know what it is, but there's something about you that just draws me like a moth to light." He said, gazing into her eyes?
Ingrid was surprised when she felt his arms around her quickly and was embraced by his hug, she slowly placed the plate down then returned his hug. When he stepped back and spoke she could feel her cheeks turning a deep red as she was blushing, no one had spoken to her like that before, or spoken about her like that. She didn't even know what to say, it was all still a surprise and amazing to her. "I am honoured you feel so likely to me." She said
Mareth smiled at her and then started cleaning up again, putting plates in a water basin he'd filled. Once everything was clean and orderly, he sat down in his chair. "Well I thought that was quite the success. Vikus and Solovet absolutely adored you, but how could they not. If ever I am away and you run into trouble, they will help you." He said, happy that he would be able to know she was in good hands when he was away. Then, a little more hesitantly, he asked, "so where do we go from here?"
She helped him to clean up the little hut after their dinner, she then went and sat on another chair across from him, smiling. "It was a lovely dinner." She said, blushing softly at his comment "I like them very much." She said to him, having enjoyed the night. She then thought about where to next for them. "I am not sure." She said
"Well, we can think on it, but right now after a hard days work and a successful dinner, I think it's time we got to bed, whaddya say? Will you be sleeping on the floor in my room again?" He asked, hoping she would say yes. He really liked having her there just because it made him feel better. He couldn't explain it, it just really made him at ease. He stood as he asked her the question, heading towards his room.
Ingrid looked at mareth as he asked her about sleeping in his room on the floor, if it was what he wanted she might "i .. I could. If you wish sir?" She said to him quietly and followed him into the room
He was about to settle in his bed, but then stopped for a second. He turned to Ingrid and said, "here, I would like to offer you my bed for the night. A gift of gratitude for your hard work and perseverance through these tough times. Please, I insist, I'll take the one on the floor." He said, hoping she would accept his offer.
