ABANDONED. Recent B&N readout book...YA scifi/fantasy. Main character has a fight with a girl in a fountain.

About a month ago I read a Barnes and Noble readout sample but can't recall the book title or author. I contacted the help desk but they dont keep a list of previous books, so no help there.
I believe it was a YA scifi or fantasy and possibly a newer book. The sample talked about the main character talking with some others in the "outcast" group through some hand signals. The main character fights another girl in a fountain and it describes how main charcter defeats her opponent because other girl kicks through the water and it slows her down. They were in some kind of training. Could have been at a convent or school. Was written in first person perspective.
Definitely not much to go on but perhaps sounds familiar to someone else.
