I'm wondering ... the script (ideally) should update the information right?

It should I think, as long as the last source of the data was another feed - it won't overwrite our work, for example. I'm not certain if there is a ranking for feeds, that says Feed A is more reliable than Feed B?

There is. However, I believe feeds more commonly add additional authors than change ones that are already listed.
