I found this article about Tolkien's and C.S. Lewis's views on Walt Disney's Snow White film, and his animated films generally, rather interesting. I tend to agree with their views, though I do, nevertheless, love The Jungle Book.

Annette Spratte (lenneaenne) | 32 comments Ha, that's funny. It would heretofore never have occurred to me to compare Disney dwarves with Tolkien dwarves. They are each a kind of their own and have nothing in common. Except the name. I wonder what Tolkien would have made of Winnie the Pooh. I love that first movie so much, where Pooh hops from one page of the book to the next and letters get blown all over the place.

AJ | 78 comments It sounded like JRRT had more issue with Disney than Snow White itself. In fact it sounded like he might have enjoyed it so I didn't get the conclusion that both of them didn't.

Thankfully though Rankin&Bass got the rights for the animation after Disney declined and their version is what I grew up with (and hold close to my heart.)

I do wonder what he would have thought of their dwarves which are on the fugly side for sure. I have my doubts Disney would have managed the dialog which R&B did pretty well -- imho
