This is a paranormal story. I think they are vampires that protect others from fae. The lead female is attracted to hunter but partnered with someone else. They windup having an encounter after she walks out of the shower...he has walked into her room (unknowly she becomes pregnant and he biting her neck 'mates' with her). She saves him later from elves by getting stabbed by a poisoned knife, while mortally injured he sees that she is his mate because of a mark on her wrist. She cannot be helped...he follows her into the underworld to save her soul.
yes, they both live and discover she is pregnant.
I thought the title was Flame or something like that....

They are all guardians, training together. The bad guy is an elf (or something similar).

4 - 6 years ago. After talking to someone about the author's writing style the name of the book is driving nuts.

Is the heroine one of the vampire(s) protectors or is she human?

I believe it was a stand alone.
I think she was a vampire (or something similar). The male love interest bites her and they are mated (they don't realize it at the time). She discovers a mark on her wrist.
There is an evil elf that is interested in her. They (the elf's men) capture her and draw the vampire protectors out to save her. There is a fight over her. The elf leader cheats using a poison on his knife to try and kill the hero. She realizes what he is doing and blocks the blade...she poisoned and everyone realizes she is going to be damned...
hero follows her into the next realm. Fights for her soul, willing to give his to let her live. because of his sacrifice they are both saved & discover she is pregnant...
