Elena | 1403 comments Wow, great start, everyone! Can't say that for myself yet lol. We had to take one of our furbabies to pet ER yesterday for UTI, she's doing much better now, thankfully. And tomorrow we volunteered to help friend move. In the rain. He's only moving across the street so hopefully won't take all day, but of course it will! :)

Bookwise, I'm seriously geeking out about Illuminae's graphics! Can't wait to read more.

Haven't read it yet, but loved other Gaiman's books I did read. Must move it up now that the show is out!

I hope your fur baby is doing good! One of mine had a UTI last summer. Scared me for awhile till we figured out what was wrong.

Illuminae is so good! I need to pick up the sequel.

Aaand, I should be done with my third book in a little while! :) Sick today, so just staying in bed and reading (with a minor trip out Pokemoning :P).

message 119: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 78 comments Good to hear, Elena. :)

And thanks! Pretty sure it was my husband that got me sick. He just started a new job, and he's working around people that have a bunch of germs, so he got sick...and now I am. At least it's giving me plenty of reading time. I'm going back and forth with an audiobook/ebook right now. I want to sleep, but it's not really happening. So I'm giving my eyes a bit of a break now and then. Makes this one an interesting read. :P

Christine (clarkepopunta) | 122 comments Hi y'all! Just finished Dragon Rider (523 pages!!) I will be in England tomorrow and Italy until next Tuesday so I will try and check in. Unfortunately I left Gentleman in Moscow at home. Is there someone else willing to do BOM questions?

message 121: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 78 comments Nice job, Christine! And everyone else, too! :) Looks like we're in a good position so far.

I don't have Gentleman in Moscow, so no can do on the BOM questions.

message 122: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments We have included rating in the completion post so that we can see what our teammates read and how they liked it, and perhaps use that as a recommendation of sorts. I also have some ideas on how it can be used in a mini-challenge later :)

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments Teresa, I saw that you finished Just Visiting but you didn't put it on your shelf. When you get a chance, are you able to add the book onto your tower teams shelf? We can't claim the points for it unless you do. Thanks!

Elena | 1403 comments Hi Twist! It means the automated spreadsheet is not picking one of your books for some reason. I tried adding it manually but it goes back to zero once sheets are remade. Can you check that the book has start and finish date marked on the main page, please? It's Issued to the Bride. And if that's not the issue, than we'll ask moderators to have a look. Thanks for catching it!

message 128: by Elena (last edited May 08, 2017 08:45AM) (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Okay, forget all I said above lol. I was trying to add in in the wrong place. Fixed now. And I'm sorry for the confusion.

message 129: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments I think as long as start date is after the 4th it should be good. This was my mishap, the spreadsheet doesn't pick up some of the editions on GR and they have to be adjusted manually. That's what I tried to do but forgot to switch to the right tab. All good now and sorry again :)

And speaking of dates :), a clarification has been added to the Q&A regarding BOMs starting and finishing:

◈ Q: What if I read the BOM prior to the discussion with the group? I know I need to finish it within a month of the BOM starting, but what if I finish it before the BOM starts?
A: The books need to be read during the TT challenge period, and no later than a month from the start date. So if you started a book after the start of TT, and finish it prior to the BOM starting, but still join the BOM discussion, you would be able to claim the BOM participation points

message 130: by Anna Serene (new)

Anna Serene (anna_serene) It took a little longer than I anticipated (vacation actually cuts into my reading time rather than the opposite) but I finished American Gods. I'll probably read a few smaller books for a little bit. I love that book.

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments Hey Anna, I was just going through the completion thread and comparing to the spreadsheet to make sure everyone's books are in there. I noticed that Midnight in Death didn't get added for you since you don't have the completion date set. When you're able, could you set the date you finished? I know you said you're on vacation, there's no rush. Thanks!

Teresa (teresainohio) Hanging in here, just crazy times here, got high school finals for 2, and one is also doing college finals getting ready for prom, graduation and party

and on top of it I work third shift, so my sleep time is limited

I think I might catch up on sleep on Sunday????? as for reading got Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen First Frost (Waverley Family, #2) by Sarah Addison Allen and Reckless (Thoughtless, #3) by S.C. Stephens

Weird. It says it's set... can you check to see if it still says that?

message 135: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments It worked now. Strange. The same thing happened to me earlier, actually. I was trying to add my book to the spreadsheet but it didn't work until I went back into my review and clicked "save" again. When I checked your shelf earlier it said there was no read date. I think it must be Goodreads acting up again - just the other day my notifications were messing up too.

Lory | 629 comments I am about halfway through the first Game of Thrones book. While reading, I am working on some "easier to read books". For me, this challenge is definitely motivating to read more.

message 138: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Hi everyone! Looks like we're all catching a crazy-times-bug these days - my husband and I will be packing and moving to a new place in the next couple of weeks, which is good but can be stressful; time to pick up some audiobooks I think :).

Teresa, hang in there and good luck to you and yours with everything! And, Ashley, good luck with the exams too!

Christine, I hope you're having a good time in Europe! And did you see, you actually won a volunteer lottery! :))
We don't have any back-up for A Gentleman in Moscow DQs so looks like we'll be giving up the spot but congrats anyway and I hope the odds will be in our favor again! :)

message 140: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 78 comments Aaand, my reading is going to slow down a lot. I have a few projects I need to be working on (particularly a couple of quilts), and I can't read at the same time. Unless I do audiobooks. Which is probable. :) Even if I don't like them as much, they're doable.

How is everyone else's reading coming along?

message 141: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments Well, thanks for being out of town for work, I finished A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin which as 835 pages!

Now onto something a little easier to read.

Elena, are you moving far? I will be moving in July, so not looking forward to all the packing.

Amanda, I find audiobooks sometimes I really like and other I don't. However, if I don't I can listen and half pay attention and still complete the book!

message 142: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Awesome, Lory! Did you like it? I read the first book years ago and really liked it but never got around to reading more and now will have to start over :).

We're not moving too far - from Baltimore county to the city, it's just happening kinda fast lol. My husband just started a new job and one of the perks is he gets to live where he works.
I hope your move goes smoothly, Lory! Yes, packing.....

I found audiobooks work best for me when I'm doing something with my hands but my mind is still free to roam - housework, needlework, packing (gah!) and such. I also like the feeling of satisfaction for doing more than one meaningful task at once :)

message 143: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 78 comments Great job, Lory! That's a chunker.

Elena, good luck with the move! I hate the packing part...but love the moving in part! My last move was from my parent's to my new house, which was just 3 miles away. That was over a year ago, and I still have stuff I haven't gotten and/or unpacked.

I might just have to deal with a few audiobooks! I don't like the ones where the voice is monotonous or constipated sounding. Started one the other day and just couldn't do it because her voice just wasn't a good fit. Hopefully I can find some good ones. :)

Teresa (teresainohio) Still hanging in there this week, now daughter is home sick, still getting son ready for prom, and my allegries have gone crazy,

oh btw I work third shift, so life has interupted my nap time so this has been a looooooooooooooooooooong week

message 145: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments I haven't checked the status spreadsheet until now, but it turns out we're in first place! Great job team!

message 146: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 78 comments Woohoo! Great job so far, everyone! :)

Slooow day for reading again for me. Making a quick quilt for my cousin and she's getting married in July (shower is June 4th!) so I spent most of the day shopping for material and then cutting out said material. And this weekend will be piecing.... Busy busy. I'll fit in some reading time, though!

message 147: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments Awesome! First place is a great place to be!

I just finished Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman , it was really good! I read it on the kindle though. I'd recommend reading it in paperback.

Ashley (xanthax) | 525 comments Would you guys consider reading socks to be a good Mother's Day gift? They're basically thick socks with fleece on the inside that are supposed to be really comfy and warm. I just want a second opinion because I don't want to look silly if she doesn't like them.

Thank you, Amanda! Last time we moved (prior to this) we went from a rather big place to a much smaller one and some of our stuff was still in boxes as well. Helped to kick off this move for sure!
I'm not familiar with quilting but do some needlework occasionally and I used to hate the "getting materials and organizing" part but came to really really like it :). Good luck and a ton of inspiration for your project!!
