Anyway, started the book earlier today and have been reading every moment I can get! I think that I am going to have a hard time making myself go to bed.

Page 70 (view spoiler)[ Very interesting so far, the Japanese culture is very fascinating. I like Mariko a lot and I think she must have been the girl in the first chapter. I also think the leader of the Black Clan was the boy. Just my early predictions :) (hide spoiler)]

Page 146 (view spoiler)[ At first I thought Ranmaru was going to be a good character but now I see he's definitely not. Whether they're putting Mariko though some sick initiation ceremony or not, it's awful what they're doing, especially Ren, he's awful. I found Yoshi good though,he definitely has a good heart. I'm really enjoying Kenshi's chapters as well as Mariko's, whereas usually I'd have a preference. (hide spoiler)]

Page 256 (view spoiler)[ It's getting a little slower, some parts are a little more boring. I thought the scene in Hanami was pretty good though. Okami is very close to figuring out Mariko is a girl, he's got all the clues but isn't putting them together. He saw her in the bath, how much does he need? I can't decide if Raiden is a good character or not, he seems okay at the minute. Okami is definitely a love interest and I don't know if I like that-very unsure. I do wish we had more Yoshi, he's my favourite so far but he's disappeared lately. (hide spoiler)]

I liked that small look into him talking with the other guy. also of letting us know the story of the 2 boys and the fathers. it looks like the emperor is definitely the reason she was attacked (but whether it was his sons, his wife, his mistress of him himself - I don't know yet. lol (hide spoiler)]

Mariko(view spoiler)[ she is resourceful but I like Wolf's description of her. that she has been coddled and doesn't know hot to take care of herself. I think that's true and part of Mariko's frustration.........that she doesn't know so much that she wishes she did (for all she's tried to learn, she was still "just a girl" and couldn't learn what the boys did. I really like this one so far!

I agree! (view spoiler)[ I thought I would be annoyed at the bouncing around of the POV but I don't mind at all. I like his chapters as much as hers. I also really liked seeing Ranmaru's conversation and the Wolf and also the emperor and his wives....I like getting all the sides of the story (hide spoiler)]

I also thought (view spoiler)[ Ranmaru would be a good guy...but he doesn't seem to be protecting/testing/trying to add Mariko to his ranks but rather provide a play thing or something amuse or distract Ren with :( (hide spoiler)]

I've just finished it, it's probably a 3 star for me. My review will be up soon if anyone wants to see my final thoughts but in short-enjoyable, likeable characters, bit weak on the plot for me.

WOW, this one was a solid 3 stars until about the last hundred pages! Loved this one!

Mariko(view spoiler)[ I love that they accepted her, met her in the woods (and that the woods accepted her!) LOVE that Ranmaru knew she was a girl from the very beginning and had helped lead her to safety.... (hide spoiler)]

BUT(view spoiler)[ who is this extra wolf? the one that met with the consort?
I wasn't sure who it was - but I did know it would be one of them.
I can't believe the Empress killed the Emporer....just like that

but it really was the consort who started all this and attempted to kill Mariko and has Amaya (hide spoiler)]

Wolf(view spoiler)[ I have no idea what it means that they are going back to the castle together
Will she really marry the other guy and the Wolf will just stay and protect her? I can't imagine Mariko marrying that guy.... (hide spoiler)]

Kenshin(view spoiler)[ I was so so sad that he was so twisted - I know that Mariko was blinded by her dad but only because she was shielded. I feel like Kenshin should be seeing the truth and not just what his father is feeding him.....
I hope his love for Amaya doesn't sway what he is willing to sacrifice but clearly.......it is (hide spoiler)]

Well, I binge read a lot of this, and it's really addicting. I'm upto 65% right now (view spoiler)[I'm having way too much fun considering what I expected! I'm loving the hiding herself from the hordes of men, and that scene that just finished was so intense! I'd thought she would be discovered my Okami any second, and I'm surprised she wasn't...the water must have been up to their necks or something... (hide spoiler)]

I really enjoyed this book and found it fast paced!! a little confused on why the black clan accepted her back so easily?? & wasn't expecting Okami to be the real shogun...
