I read with the music playing, if the book is easy to read...
If it's hard, I prefer to read in the peace and quiet...

How do you guys like to read?

message 2: by Bonita (new)

Bonita I'm very easily distracted so I need quiet when I'm reading, unfortunately.

message 3: by Tal (new)

Tal Heyman I can read in all situations. When I'm in a moving vehicle, I do need to listen to music so I won't get a headache.

message 4: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) I can read pretty much anywhere, anytime.

I prefer reading when it's quiet, that's when I read the fastest as well. But I can read everywhere. When I'm in the train/bus, I usually listen to Lana del Rey while reading :)

YEAS! Lana del Rey!

message 7: by Erica (new)

Erica I cannot read in a car, but I'm fine with trains or airplanes. Usually I read before going to sleep, or if I'm waiting for food in a restaurant. Any music is fine for me, but I usually don't listen to it when I read.

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books (alittleteaandbooks) With as little distraction as possible.

Funny, I can't read in airplanes or trains, but I can read in a car! We're opposites :)

I can read in loud and quiet places. I can't read in cars but I can read on airplanes and buses. I can't read with music playing. Too distracting

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily McQueen (mcqueeny) well, I always listen to music doesn't matter what genre but when it's all quiet and I can play my music out loud it shouldn't be too hard and when it's noisy around me and I use my headphone it doesn't matter how loud the music is 😅 usually can't read in moving vehicles besides a car on the high way... Then I am actually able to read. I usually always listen to music when reading but I can't have music playing when I'm reading a french book... (I speak Dutch, English, German and French but my French isn't that fluent yet well it's close to my German but it's not there yet) so music distracts me a little when reading French, but it does not when I read in any other language.

message 13: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 19 comments Depends on where I am. If I'm on the subway or an airplane, I pretty much have to have music, but at home I do better without music. Sometimes I can put on a movie and read with the movie in the background.

I'm like Minx, I can read pretty much any time anytime anyplace.
Loud/quiet. Still/moving. Music or not. With the tv on, while I'm having a meal.

... On a photography classroom full of people going crazy while being asked "You can read with all this noise?" (I was reading Lolita too xD). It was a handy skill for keeping up with all my readings for college.

Extreme sickness and tiredness leading me being dead to the world for 19 hours straight would be the kinds of circumstances in which I wouldn't be able to read.

And being a tribute in the Hunger Games xD

Jessica Jesinghaus (jessjesinghhaus) | 8 comments I have my iPad with me everywhere, meaning my virtual library is at my fingertips at all times. I'll read if I'm waiting in a drive thru line, a long line at the grocery store, etc. Dinner always takes me a bit longer to prepare because I'm always trying to read while minding the stove.e You name it, I've probably done it while reading... within reason of course. (I can't drive & read -yet, but it makes a great case for self-driving cars!) I've even been known to carry on conversations while reading. Loud, quiet, busy, with an audience... makes no difference to me!

I'm impressed... I can't read while watching T.V. or while talking...

message 20: by Polina (new)

Polina Traore (pollytraore) | 31 comments Minimum distractions). I can't listen to music while reading, because something's bound to be just white noise, and I like my music understood, and my books well digested (that doesn't sound right, does it?)).
Somehow, however, when I'm in public places, I choose to turn my iPod on for reading. So to be honest, that doesn't matter as long as the book is great and engaging.

message 21: by Dorota (new)

Dorota (dorotadaisy) | 4 comments Everywhere I think, in the house in the garden, bus, car, train, plane, I just try if its not going well then I leave it for later. The TV and music don't bother me

message 22: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Poltrack [book whisperer] | 52 comments I prefer to read when it is quiet but, I can read anywhere. If I am in a place where a lot is going on I may have to read a sentence over again but, I still would continue to read!

message 23: by Ramona (new)

Ramona (monakersch) | 6 comments I can read anywhere except a moving car. I usually get so absorbed in a story (as long as it's a good one) that I don't get distracted by what happens around me. If I want to, I can also pay attention to my surroundings while reading.

Usually I read on my bed with music from playlists I prepared for the specific book

message 25: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) | 473 comments I am super distractable with reading at the moment and I often end up on Goodreads instead when I sit down with a book. However I have lucked out that my new job has so much downtime that I'm reading loads while on shift. Absolutely love it.

I also have an odd tendency to read while my video games load....

I also read a lot of audiobooks. I always have something running in the car and while I'm doing chores at home although I do switch my books with all the podcasts I keep up with as well.

Andreas wrote: "Usually I read on my bed with music from playlists I prepared for the specific book"

That sounds like a very interesting way to go at it. That means you have to research the mood of the book well, right?

Tal Heyman I can read anywhere, unless there's a television on.
I love reading in my bungee chair and outside in the summer.

They are! My chair is an oval and if you sit on the side and lean on the side of the chair, it doesn't sink too much and doesn't hurt your back too. It's really great

That sounds lovely, Darcy! :D
Not such a big fan of the thunder though, but oh well, guess everyone has their own favourite reading preferences xD
