May 5th is Cinco de Mayo day. Read a book set in Mexico.
Since May has Armed Forces Day (20th) and Memorial Day (29th) in the US, I'll suggest: Read a book with a character in the military.
May 5th is also Children's Day in Japan and Korea. Read a book in which children are important characters.
May 15 is Police Officer's Memorial DayRead a book in which a character is a police officer
May 1 is International Workers DayRead a book about social issues

Police Officer Memorial - Police officer is main char (Licha-Olivia)
Note the main character must be a police officer /detective. NOT a private investigator.
