The father was accused of treason and selects trial by combat with the King's champion. The father is killed and the champion is awarded the father's castle and must marry the daughter. I believe the King thought the daughter was also treasonous and the knight was to watch her. They fall in love and the knight is afraid she will fnd out that he was the one that killed her father.

Thanks for your help. I read the book last year but since I read both new and old releases I can't say when the book was published. It was a standalone book and the author was female. I read it on my kindle so I can't recall the cover.
