Joseph decides to bring Daphne onto the case involving Angel (Lana), despite her being on leave because of her recent trauma. Despite the outcome, was it a risky move on his part?

No, he knew that Daphne needed to find a cause to pursue outside herself and Lana was the perfect cause.

I think it was a little risky but he knew her well enough to know he needed to bring her out of her own "head" and problems. So I think he made the right decision.
