Very pleased to see my book up there now on the group HP. Xander told me he's submitted price cut and should be shown on Amazon very soon.

I wondered if Janet could put a link to the book on Amazon.com (http://amzn.to/2aujSc4) with the other info on the AGT home page, given many US members of group and there isn't a .com link on the Goodreads Blind Side page (where it has a Get the book button), only the Amazon UK link.

Jennie | -2 comments If there's any questions/comments about my book this weekend will be a good time to ask them! On Monday I'm off on holiday for a week, though as the forecast is rain and the hotel will have wifi I'm sure I can respond from time to time, as long as my husband doesn't notice that is.

Sadly rather let down with the response for this read along.

Will have to consider if we should continue, with so few members taking part.

Any thoughts please

message 34: by P.K. (new)

P.K. Davies | 549 comments Hi Sean. I found it next to yours on Share Your Review. I don't know how I got it there because you said it was okay to put it on this thread (above). I must have opened on yours and assumed we were here.
As a member still feeling around in the dark, I can't be sure how I can offer much advice apart from my impressions so far. I think the problem, if it is a problem, might be that there are so many threads here for reading books. The PIFM thread and others seem to stack up books so much there isn't room for a monthly review of current books. There is a limit to what one can read and my own view would be for less quantity and more quality if that is possible. I think it is important for new author's to get the chance to be read and reviewed but it might need a more prominent thread. I have read and reviewed three books so far, two on another group read. For one review I received a whining, abusive reaction from the author and for Jennie's I have not even received an acknowledgment that I bothered to buy it and read it. The other is awaiting a response. So, my experience so far for reviewing is not good. Perhaps A Good Thriller being mostly of readers for readers is the safest, and not get mixed up with author's at all. As an author I squirm to offer this advice.

Changing the subject briefly if I may. What about the French tennis? Fantastic so far. Look forward to Queens and Wimbledon
Regards

I'm sorry PK but I haven't yet seen your review - I meant to hunt for it yesterday when I saw your earlier comment (I too have had serious trouble finding stuff among all the threads, BTW) but got distracted with deadlines, dog trouble, etc. And yes I'm very pleased that you read my book and bothered to review it, thank you for that! will go look now!!

message 36: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | -2 comments Here's my reply to P.K.'s review, which is on the Share Your Review thread:

Thanks for your thoughts on my book, I appreciate all your points. I was thinking Nikolai would have had months to save some cash, and he knew that he may not see Georgie again for a while...
You're not alone in stressing the love story aspect - I have described it as a 'love story blended with a psychological thriller' with politics - though unfortunately that is difficult to get across in an Amazon category. (it's now in women's crime fiction) My publisher decided to label it a psychological thriller in the Amazon ebook title but I suspect it is not really that to many. Maybe I will ask them to change it.

here's my comment on Sean's review:

Great to get your review Sean.

I've had no end of trouble categorising this novel - it's got a strong psychological suspense element but also romance and politics/social issues. I hesitate to label as 'romantic thriller' as it's not at all that bodice ripping thing :)

Re the ending, I could have made it more thrillerish but decided a longer, less twisty wrap up was the more satisfying way to go, since to me the relationships between the characters were the most important. I guess you can't please everyone all the time!

message 38: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Hm, we have the "book I just finished" thread which is where both of you posted your reviews. I'm not surprised Jennie didn't see it. My opinion is in a group you join for fun, you can't make people do when they're not interested. We've had a lot of participants in author reads, but it's petered out, just like for book pals and hot seat threads. To keep the group vibrant, I think it's best to encourage the active threads and maybe try new ideas to keep members engaged

message 39: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Points all taken.

Very true Perri, all the groups threads have gone down.

As a group, we were one of the very first to start Book Pals, and we used to get 40-50 people a month.

Pick It For Me, I started with a choice of books I wanted to read, and I note is still successful, with the same 20-30 members every month.

We try to offer many threads, and certain members go into certain threads, I have noted and follow closely.

Many other groups have failed with group/ monthly reads as well.

I am always finding it hard to keep members happy and authors, and do try my best.

The more active the author, the more members read, this is a fact.

Also we all have to realise, not all books will suit all of us.

As Perri says, it is just for fun...

We will as moderators try our best to keep thinking of new ideas.

Yes, I do think there may be too many threads and I do keep an eye on this and remove old ones that haven't been looked at for a while.

As for group reads ...... I'm inclined to think that a break is taken for a while. Movement on here generally slows down during the summer time as people are out and about more. Participation tends to move in peaks and troughs and we always get slow times. I freely admit to having days when I'm simply too busy or my mind is on other things. Reading quite often takes a hit because it's not something I can keep up consistently. I always go through periods of losing my reading mojo. Just the ebb and flow of life.

Perri | -43 comments Finished-my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Spoiler:

So is the title because Jennie was blindsided by Julian?

message 42: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | -2 comments Good to get your review Perri.

The title is to me about Georgie not seeing Julian properly at first, also him not seeing her (literally) later on. There's other resonances too, eg the shock of the 7/7 terror attack on London, and Georgie's discovery of her father's guilt/her mother's true situation.
