Hi, I am trying to remember which book describes a village where criminals are given a choice to either be hanged and die an instant death, or be hung out over the cliff and if they survive the night there they will be allowed to continue their life.
In this book If I remember correctly one of the main characters is in that situation and becomes the first person ever to go through the night on the cliff and not die. any help would be greatly appreciated.

you might be thinking of the stormlight archive series. They arent hung over a cliff. Instead they are placed out during a storm and if they survive, it is seen as forgiveness by the gods or something like that. Only the MC has ever survived because of his powers
