beth How did you come up with the idea for the Divergent trilogy?

A lot of people have compared the Divergent trilogy to The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. What are your opinions on this?

message 52: by Rain (new) - added it

Rain Reading from Tobias' POV was strange, I thought that he was very different from what Tris had perceived of him in the previous books. What was it like diving into his head?

Adelaide Hi Veronica, I really love the Divergent Series. It makes me think about what life means to us and how we should make it meaningful. Actually, I cried but felt proud of Tris when I was reading the part she was dead. I have to admitt that she's so brave! If I were her, I probably wouldn't have the courage to make such a decision. The question I'm always wondering is that what inspire you to end the story this way, it's unique, you know ( at least that's what I've read so far)? Only a few authors attempt to have the main character die in the end! I love your writing, thank you for your story!!!

message 54: by Paula (new)

Paula Were you tempted to add a love triangle in the story? Also, how did you feel about Allegiant's end? I mean, when you decided that it had to end in that way, what did you think?

message 55: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Why did you decide to kill Tris at the end of Allegiant? How did you feel when you made the decision? How did you come up with the ideas for Divergent? Did you prefer writing in Tobias's or Tris's point of view?

By the way, you're one of my favorite authors, right up there with J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, and Mark Twain. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world! :)

message 56: by Lori (new)

Lori Hyslop Is there a reason that you killed off tris at the end of Allegiant and do you regret it now that so many fans are upset? / Did you always know that tris was going to die in the end?

How did you feel when fans were dissatisfied after reading Allegiant?

Good questions! I'm sure they won't ask her, but I would love to see her address the fact that she upset so many fans. I've read a few things over on Amazon about things she said to people in person at book signings regarding Allegiant, and I would like to think that she can give a decent civilized answer to so many people who spent good money on a book and were beyond disappointed.

message 58: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Baxter Veronica, did you have any say in what the cast would be for the movie production of Divergent? Were you pleased with how the movie portrayed the book and if it was how you pictured it would turn out?

message 59: by pam (last edited Jun 17, 2014 05:58PM) (new)

pam eronica i have a "few" questions for you like all of your dear fans. How was to you to kill so many characters along the trilogy? It´s difficult to finish your own character? Who was the most difficult? And about Tris whow hard was to kill her? I read that you will do another finish for allegiant it's that true?In what faction you are and why you choose it?You will write another book/series? I really like the divergent series and i hope that you'll continue to write, you are very creative, your books are unique and it´s one of the reasons i like it, and for me you don't need to change the final of allegiant, even if i like to see what would happen with Tris and Four after everythink! Thank you for all!

Adelaide Hi, I want to know what kind of stories will you write after the ones from Tobias' perspective. Could you give some hint? Oh, I know some of the fans are upset with Allegiant, but you don't regret, do you? I guess you're trying to tell us that not all the endings are really what we predict in our real life, at least that's what I thought. In addition, I DON'T regret to read this trilogy. :)

message 61: by Kuga (new)

Kuga Hello Veronica Roth, i would like to ask you a few questions about you and your book. How did you start the whole idea about divergent and the factions, in the divergent series? How did you feel about Tris dying in Alligent? Did you feel like it was a good way to end this series? Which character would you like to be in this series? Why? Which character's personality and other characteristics could you relate yourself to mostly? Which book did you enjoy writing the most? Thank you for writing this series for all the many ‘Divergent’ fans, including me.

Lucho Hi, my quiestions are:
- Why did you decide to kill Tris and not Tobias?
- Have you thought a different ending for Divergent's saga?

message 63: by Karenzi (new)

Karenzi Is it possible that those books about four aka tobias to be filmed? Do you want to?

message 64: by Katelynn (new) - added it

Katelynn Brewer Some authors pull ideas, characters, and stories from dreams they have had (ex: Stephanie Meyer). I'm interested to know if this applies to the Divergent series. Were your beloved characters just whims of random ideas, based from pieces of yourself, reflections of people you know, or truly figments from a dream(s)?

message 65: by Katelynn (new) - added it

Katelynn Brewer Do you continue to think of different ways of changing certain parts in the Divergent series (although it is over)? Things you think you should have wrote instead?

message 66: by Pau (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pau G I need to know what do you think of Summit/Lionsgate introducing Edgar to be in a love triangle between Tris and Tobias/Four? I hate the idea because one of the reasons why I love your series IS because there is no love triangle, it's just Tris and Four and they trying to save and understand their relationship and the world around them, so it would mean the world to me if I knew what the creator of these amazing books think about these decision. Also, I really love the way you write and imagina this worlds, you're awesome

message 67: by Sunny (new)

Sunny L Hello! I'm Mia and I'm a huge fan of the Divergent series. They're fast-paced, unique and completely fantastic. What I'm curious about is, were you planning the Allegiant ending the entire time or did it just sort of come in by itself? Also, any new books that are coming soon? Thank you.

message 68: by Jordan (new)

Jordan A Veronica Roth. What inspired you to write Divergent? How did you came up with the characters' names? Are you going to write more books after Divergent?

message 69: by Karly (new)

Karly Hi Veronica, If you ever had the chance to change anything in the book, would you? Why or why not? And also what made want to create the Divergent Trilogy? Was it random? Did if have something to do with someone, or maybe something you've seen? But, all in all you did a really great job on the whole trilogy! And I really hope that you get to read and answer my questions and if not, congrats to the people who did get theirs read and answered.

message 70: by Aaliyah (new) - added it

Aaliyah S. What's your story? How did you become an author? Are you going to make another series? I think Divergent was an amazing book. Even though Beatrice Prior passes away at the end of the book.... at least the book gives a great meaning to it! You have great ideas! Keep it up!

Olivia Hello Mrs. Veronica Roth! Thank you first of all, for creating my favourite series ever. Did you find it harder to write in Tris's or Tobias's pov? Is there anything that shocked you whole writing in Tobias's point of view(in both allegiant and the short stories). Have you ever wondered how else you would end the trilogy if Tris didn't sacrifice her self?
Thank you!

Vidushi Mittal what faction r u
I am amity and I am obsessed with divergent!!!!!

Hailey Georgia wrote: "Where did your inspiration for the story between the characters come from? I love the chemistry betwen Tobias and Christina as well as Four and Christina and it's getting me all anxious trying to figure out who will end up with who! I absolutely love your books and can't wait until the others come out!

Four and Tobias are THE SAME PERSON, what do you mean who ends up with whom?

Bhavik What is your favourite of the four short stories you have written for four's collection?

message 75: by emily :) (new)

emily :) Hi Mrs. Veronica Roth! My name is Emily and I LOVED your series Divergent! My question for you is what was the first faction you created in the story? Also, in terms of the story in General did you take inspiration from your life for the characters or the story line ect. Thank you so much for your amazing story!

message 76: by Hailey (last edited Jun 28, 2014 10:09AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hailey Why did you kill Tris?
Truthfully I can get why but am curious as to why YOU did it, also
Why did you go about throwing Four and Christina together afterward?
NO, NO, NO! I can't stand when the main character loses their "soul mate" yet manages to form "something" for someone in THE SAME BOOK! So why, WHY?

message 77: by Miriam (new)

Miriam Hi Veronica I'm Miriam I wanted to ask you why you decided to kill Tris? Why not Four or Caleb?A lot of people are saying that your books are the next Hunger Games and the next Twilight does this bother you or is it true? Are you planning on paring Four and Christina together if so will there be more books?

message 78: by Nadhira (last edited Jul 04, 2014 06:26AM) (new)

Nadhira Amalia Hi, Veronica Roth. I'm one of your fans from Jakarta, Indonesia. I really love divergent trilogy.
But i have some question about Allegiant, and i hope u'll answer me.
why did you choose to end tris's life?
Is it because she's the main heroine so she should die as a hero too?
If you didn't choose her death as an ending, do you have another alternative ending? thankyou.

message 79: by Dramapuppy (new)

Dramapuppy Does anyone know when or if she will answer some of these?

message 80: by Miriam (new)

Miriam They told u they would tell us if she answered our question but I don't know when she will start answering

message 81: by Dramapuppy (new)

Dramapuppy Oh, now I feel oblivious. It's in the July YA newsletter. I just need to read more carefully! ;)

message 82: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Morefield At the end of Allegiant Caleb was suppose to be the one to sacrifice himself, why did you decide that Tris should be the one to make the sacrifice?

Amanda Do you think the series would have more or less depth if they were all written from Tobias' point of view? Do you think that if you didn't change the pov that you wouldn't have written the last two? Did any of the characters not turn out how you imagined them?

The thing about Four and Christina getting together after Allegiant was an April Fools joke. (That's what I've been told, anyway...)

message 85: by Kacey (new)

Kacey Ms. Roth,
I must admit I'm still grieving from Allegiant, but I'm taking a page from Tobias and mending it.
My questions:
What happens to Tobias after the epilogue? Does he ever move on, and with who? Does he become a politician? What about Christina, does she ever get over Will and meet someone else?
Also, I was quite disappointed with the explanation of divergence - was it basically to say we'll never know what it really is?

message 86: by Rida (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rida Sajid Hi Veronica,

1. I am not gonna blame you on ending story in this way :) I got really said, cried till the death of Tris to the end of epilogue but I still liked it. It was really an effort of yours from the very start to explain sacrifice.

2. Did you have any ides that Divergent would become so much popular at the time of writing it? I mean most of the people rank it as #1 among all YA dystologies.

3. Was it you writing something for the first time? Or have you written things before but didn't published it?

4.Have you studied Genetics? Or you took help from internet or someone else on explaining genetic terms?

message 87: by Michelle (last edited Jul 28, 2014 11:34AM) (new)

Michelle What is your point of view on Tris and what message do you want the Divergent book series to send to teenagers?

Belle Dear Veronica Roth,
what faction do you think you would be in?
and do Zeke and Sauna get together?
thanks!
ps: love your books!

bhavi Do you plan on writing books from other characters percepectives??
and is there a movie being made for insurgent and allegiant??

message 90: by Ncc (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ncc Thank you so much for your books!!! I am just like Tobias, right down to what fears he has. ( I share ALL of them) I am Amity/ Abnegation. Which character are you most like, and what would your fear landscape be like?

NCC

Bryant Miller Hi Veronica! I was wondering if, since you were planning on making Divergent from Tobias' perspective, if you were planning on killing Tobias instead of Tris?
