The main character is a female who is not blood related to that family but adopted. The book begins with a stranger coming to her family's home claiming to be the family's missing son. She thinks he's an imposter because she used to follow the son around when they were children-she had a crush on him- and on the night he went missing she secretly followed him to hear the sound of gunshots which makes her believe the real son is dead. However the imposter knows some things that the real son would know, like the fact that the main character once kissed him when they were children. There's also an uncle who is mad about the 'son''s return as it would mean that he would inherit less stuff from the son's rich and sick mother after she dies. This is all I can remember from the part of the book I read. This, and that the son was into drugs and he was 16? When he went missing while the girl was 13 years old. They are adults now. I hope this rings a bell for someone. I read this around 2013 but the book could be older.
