I thoroughly enjoyed the book and admired the women immensely. We often see wealthy women leading shallow lives, but these two young women wanted to make a difference and did. It was wonderful that the letters survived and gave us a sense of them as human beings as well as a real sense of the time.
I also loved how they were driven to do something with their lives. Not typical of their class or age necessarily. They were pretty amazing women. I'm so glad that the granddaughter told their story!
Our book group gave it an average grade of 3.75 on a 5 point scale. The majority gave it a 4. We had an interesting discussion as always.
