I really enjoyed this book, but felt like I was always waiting to hear more about their teaching experiences. I never got enough of that. Apparently they didn't write about it much in their letters. Too bad.

Linda | 190 comments I thoroughly enjoyed the book and admired the women immensely. We often see wealthy women leading shallow lives, but these two young women wanted to make a difference and did. It was wonderful that the letters survived and gave us a sense of them as human beings as well as a real sense of the time.

I also loved how they were driven to do something with their lives. Not typical of their class or age necessarily. They were pretty amazing women. I'm so glad that the granddaughter told their story!

Linda | 190 comments I hope the rest of Book Club enjoyed it. I'm eager to hear what they have to say.

Our book group gave it an average grade of 3.75 on a 5 point scale. The majority gave it a 4. We had an interesting discussion as always.

Linda | 190 comments Thank you so much for keeping the thread going and keeping us so informed. Do you sometimes feel as if you're rounding up cats? Once again a good book and a good discussion. Thanks for the info on the author. She sounds as amazing as her grandmother.
