Chandi | 9 comments Hi guys,
Not sure where to ask this. I am relatively new to goodreads. I am trying to get an author widget on my site. I have read a bunch of posts about how to do it and I am following instructions, but when I go to the author widget buttons, and click on any of them, there is NO CODE that shows up. Nothing happens if i click on them. And a code should show up... so I am feeling stumped and confused. Any advice? (Again this for an author button widget, not any of the 'what i'm reading' types of widgets.)

There are several author widgets to choose from on the page: Buttons, Reviews, Add to my Books, and Books. Which one are you having trouble with? Mine all show the code needed to display them on my website, except for the Buttons. Those are just images you would right-click and save, then upload them to your website and tag them with the HTML code to make them a hyperlink to Goodreads. If you aren't seeing the code for the other widgets, perhaps try a different web browser?

Chandi | 9 comments Hi, yes, one of the buttons is what I wanted. wasn't clear to me why they had no code. so, to use one of those, when you say "upload it" would I still use the widget function on my wordpress site? where do I get the HTML code? That's what I need to put into the widget, right?

Thank you!

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Wordpress site tools. Basically, it's just a picture, so you would add it to your site like any other picture. Then look for the function that allows you to create a hyperlink, and link the picture to Goodreads.

Pam Baddeley | 153 comments Do you mean this Chandi - this page gives advice on how to get the widget code - https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

When I look at that page in my profile, I can see all the types of widget that can be added with the code beside each to copy then paste into the widget's appropriate field on WordPress. I added what they call a 'shelf badge' some time ago and that worked fine.

Thanks Pam. Nope, I saw that. I don't have a need for widgets for the books I am reading and what's on my shelf, etc. I want just the "author button" and Daniel explained that those are not supposed to have codes. I have to treat it like an image...I just have to figure out exactly how to put into wordpress.

Pam Baddeley | 153 comments OK. I didn't think we were supposed to put the author button on websites - you mean the 'follow author' button visible under other author profiles?
