Let's call this as it's almost 5 p.m. If we haven't voted by now, well-- Room With A Clue won with three to one. So Room With A Clue is May's pick.

Now, who will host the discussion? I'm ending Jackaby for April; do we have any takers to host for May? You know what to do. Break book down into three chapter chunks leaving last two chapters for the wrap thread.

We're getting there, PI's. Thanks for your participation!

Hello all! I'm still recovering from whatever this is that ails me but making progress. If I can get a copy of Room With A Clue, I'm in for May. Should be an interesting discussion with Pgh hosting!
What's the start date?

I got a used copy for cheap off Ammy. It's old but is in fairly clean condition. I guess some got downloadable copies.

Ian, maybe you can be in charge of the scones, lemon curds, clotted cream, cuke sandwiches and such. If you can score some Turkish Delight, that would be a topper on the spotted dick! Well, maybe not...um, you know. Cheerio and carry on, PI's.

message 62: by Ian (new)

Ian | 20 comments lol Turkish delight in powdered sugar or covered in chocolate?

message 63: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I'll take all of the above!!!!

message 64: by Ian (new)

Ian | 20 comments I had 3 scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam on Wednesday. Love lemon curd tarts. I only do cucumber (cuke) sandwiches, if they have tuna and salad cream or mayo mixed in. I only serve Twinnings tea, but I have quite a selection of fruit, green, Earl Grey and Lady Grey. Would you care for a Victoria Sponge cake as well?

message 65: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I'm all for the tarts in multiple varieties! I'm not sure I'd be a fan of Victoria Sponge (I've never eaten it but I've seen pictures). I just starting drinking Lady Grey but I'm more of a coffee drinker!

Middle of next week might be a good time to start the discussion to give us a bit of time to start the book I think.

How do you make salad cream, Ian? What's in it? Sounds more interesting than plain mayo. :-)

Twinning's is my favorite!

J, the tea should help with recovery making a way for the rest of the good stuff. Served in The Parlor, 24/7. ;-)

They have an international foods aisle at my grocery store and the British section has salad cream! I always thought of trying it. I might go back to that section and see what else they have. I know they have Hobnobs!

My local store has an "English" section as well Nicole. I have seen the Salad Cream (and Hobnobs too!). It seems to me I have seen Spotted Dick but wonder how good it might be coming from a tin? Question for you, Ian, what is the difference between Lady Grey and Earl Grey tea? I love Earl Grey and have it often but I have never heard of Lady Grey...

Should we start posting recipes in the "Kitchen" here?

You never know, we all might enjoy it as we do seem to talk about food quite a bit. At least I do, lol.

Actually, I'm more a coffee buff only because I can't find a tea I really like. I think I had the Earl Grey but can't recall if I liked it or not. LOL. Anyway, maybe you lot can educate me in the ways of the tea world.

Allison, Lady Grey is a little bit fruitier, with citrus notes, and zesty orange.
I like both Earl and Lady Grey, but I never let my tea bags stew/steap, as I'm more a coffee drinker too. I like my tea with just enough colour, but I want to see the bottom of my tea cup as well! lol
The fruit and green teas, I leave in for the time requested on the packs, as they don't seem to stew/steap the same as ordinary teas.
Isn't there any tea tasting shop/houses around near where you live? You probably won't find a Theo and Drayton, and dead bodies hanging around, but you would get to sample different teas to see what suits your own personal palette. :)

I like tea but I'm really a Coffee Junkie. I sit here at 8:24 AM (my time) and I have already had at least 1/2 pot (a 12 cup coffee pot mind) of coffee...

I do like iced tea in the Spring/Summer though. Is iced tea something the Brits do, Ian, or is that an American thing? I admit I LOVE a Southern Sweet tea and I am guessing that that is absolutely an American idea.

Hmmm...well there is an Apothecary here in town that carries quite a bit of teas, mostly herbal I think. No Theo&Drayton lol.

message 82: by Ian (new)

Ian | 20 comments Iced tea is more of a American thing. But I like Iced tea, but only tend to drink it when I'm in the States.

Wow, so much on the food business, in the last few days! And I am certainly in for that! I am not a coffee drinker, but I love my tea. I use Twinings most of the time as well, Ian. We have lots of their varieties here in the US as well. I've had both Lord and Lady Grey as well. (I'm a little partial to Lady Grey, but I like them both.) I tried Spotted Dick once, though it was from a can, and it was just awful. I suppose made properly, it wouldn't be. And clotted cream, well, you had me a "cream".

I'll start the thread on Room With a Clue Wednesday-ish, or so. Keep me posted on whether you have the book or not. Though my local library can get almost anything, they didn't have this one, so I sprang for the $3.99 and got it on my Kindle.

And Spotted Dick or Jam Rolly Polly, covered in lovely hot custard, was a standard in my youth.
Or my nan's Bread and Butter pudding, using up all the leftover bread.
I'm going back to the period before all this pre-pack stuff. When mothers and Grandmother's used to make dinners and desserts from scratch.
I love cooking and baking, but with living on my own, it seem pointless at times cooking full dinners just for one.
I do stews and bolognese in a big pot, and have maybe one or 2 meals out of it, before I batch them up and freeze it.

message 86: by Ian (new)

Ian | 20 comments I have two copies...one physical and one kindle copy. :)

J My favorite dessert is English Trifle....complete with custard and sherry! Used to make it every year where I used to work for our annual International Food Day Luncheon. There was never a drop left.
Pgh- my copy is enroute from the next county. No idea when it will get here but I doubt it will be by Wednesday; but don't wait on me to start.

Ian, there's a birthday link in The Parlor. Tell us yours as we let the birthday of the month "kid" post a few of their selected titles and celebrate by making one of them the month's pick.

Incidentally, any June birthdays in The Parlor?
