Brent | 6 comments When I was in middle school I read a YA fiction book set in a futuristic time, like flying cars worthy. It may have been the beginning of Book 2 of a series or Book 1. It starts out with a man on the run from the government. He is taking a microchip out of his wrist that the government tracks all citizens with. I think the microchip was scanned by devices in the city instead of tracked. It may even have been used for currency and the like.
He might have been in either a city or the suburbs. I know he was somewhere with buildings anyway. He was dong it roughly, like with a knife or something. I also remember he was worried about someone he was close to. So, he may have had a girlfriend or a wife and family. Since I was in middle school, it would have been published sometime before 2005. Thanks for all your help.

-Brent

Brent, about how old is the man? What's his job or special skills (e.g., computer hacker)? Does he live on Earth in a major U.S. city?

Is he on the run with a companion?

Any chance this book was meant for older adults, not young adults (teens)?

Allison (alianora) | 105 comments I'm not sure exactly why, but this reminds me of a bit in the second book in the Psion series. I remember Cat cutting a tracking device out of his wrist, I think. And he's constantly being chased by the goverment.

I think the man sounded young. In his 20s. Don't remember his job. He was on earth, not sure what city. He had no companion. This book was not an adult book, pretty sure. I found it in my middle school library.

I just read the beginning of the second book. I don't think that's it. Its futuristic, but I don't remember any other planets being spoken of or aliens. Or telepathy.

A few long shots:
- The Gleaning Time: ARC One - In the Beginning by Angela Pritula?
- Box by Penelope Todd?

Is the main character an "ordinary guy" with no special skills/powers or accomplishments?

Don't think that's them.
He's ordinary, no powers. I think the chip he has, he's had since birth.

Brent | 6 comments I think the second book began with him breaking into a house to cut the chip in his arm out.
