Please any information you find or want to share about Heart of Darkness here.

Jon | 401 comments I would suggest readers look at a quick, short and sweet biography about Joseph Conrad here: http://www.biography.com/people/josep...

He is known to be a profound influence upon later writers like T. S. Eliot and William Faulkner.

Neat I think I read a bit about him before and found is story pretty interesting.

I'm bad with poetry so I got looked at this when I was trying to read it: http://www.sparknotes.com/nofear/lit/...

Jon | 401 comments Yeah, his personal story is fascinating. A bit of a renegade and even a pirate with the apparent gun-running he did. And his experience in the merchant marine gave him a lot of exposure for his immense story-telling narratives and locales. They account for Lord Jim, Typhoon, An Outcast of the Islands, Nostromo, and of course Heart of Darkness.

Marta (gezemice) | 214 comments I am planning to listen on audio. I have found that short classics work really well on audio if the narrator is good - the narration really enhances older text.

It is free on Audible channels for Amazon Prime members! Just download the Audible app.

Amazon Prime has a free Audible Channel for Prime Members called "Celebrity Voices: Classic Stories". Heart of Darkness is one of the classics offered, narrated by Kenneth Brannagh. It is only 3 hours 51 minutes.

I have listened to Pride and Prejudice from this series before, and Rosamund Pike's voice was amazing. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the info, Jon. I am currently reading The Sound and the Fury, and so now ..."

With the Sound and the Fury, you are embedded about as deep as you can into Faulkner's stream of consciousness technique. Very difficult, but worth it.

Matthew (fogjuice) If you don't have an Amazon Prime membership, the audio of Heart of Darkness can also be found at audiovox.com for free. They have several older books, usually public domain, read by volunteers. Like a project Gutenberg, but for audio.
