This was such a good book. I love how authors can build suspense in even the most mundane situations. In this book, it was about hummingbirds, another time I thought it was really well-done was the discussion of architecture in The Devil and the White City.
An epistolary novel about an expedition across Alaska in the 1800's, there were so many interesting components of this book. Eskimo-lore, technology or lack thereof (taking a photo was a gigantic production!), women trying to come into there own. Really so many different aspects. I thought it was very good, and when it ended I was really sad that it was over.
I think there's something wrong with me! I seem to be the only person who didn't love this book. Perhaps it was a timing issue. I feel like I should try again.
I wonder if there is a person out there that would like 100% of the books that I do. I doubt it. Nicole D, Anita, and Sara are the three that come to mind when I think of those who have the closest to my taste, but there are still many deviations. I'm loving A Spool of Blue Thread and will probably give it five. Nicole D gave it one!
