Roee | 2177 comments Hello,
Two questions.
1. If I create a new edition of a book in a different language, should I transcript the Author's name to the new language? or should I leave it as-is in the original language?
2. If the book is part of a series which has a different name in the new language, should I add a new series and add this book (and the other ones) to this series as well?

Thanks!

Empress (the_empress) Hello Roee.

1. When adding a translation of a work, please keep the name as it is (IF in English, if not let us know) and add the author's translated name in secondary position (click add author for a new field to show up). You can add the translators afterwards as well.

We do have some specific rules about the author names, so please feel free to leave a link for us here to see if it has been added properly.

You can see the author name rules here.

Specific rules to pay attention to:
* If an author uses initials in their name, the initials should contain NO spacing between them and be marked with a period. No spaces within the letters of a name.
* Authors with books published in multiple languages should have their names dealt with similarly to those with pen names. All editions should have the primary author name as the standard or most common Roman (that is, English-language) version of the author's name. Editions published under another spelling of the name or the name in another language should have that name listed as the secondary author.
Example: Хари Потър и философският камък

2. The new edition will be associated with the main series page. We try to avoid creating multiple duplicative/series. Series for translations are only added in special cases. Manual re series.

Please make sure the edition you are adding contains the whole book. If the translation has been split in parts create it as a new book/work not as an edition and combine properly if other similar editions exist.
Don't combine part 1 of 2 with part 1 of 3 from the same book.
A good tip is to leave a note of the amount of parts the book is separated for future librarian reference.
Example would be:
Librarian note: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone part 1 of 2"
Title: Title in language (Harry Potter #1, part 1 of 2)
If this is the case let us know if you need help

Hope this gives you an idea of how to proceed and I did not manage to confuse you more.

Roee | 2177 comments Thank you for the answers.
Here is a link to one of the books. If this is OK, I'll make similar changes to the other books.

Empress (the_empress) That's absolutely fine.
Once this is done the profile will display the translated editions. If you are up for it, you can also add the picture from the other profile and some bio in that language.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Roee | 2177 comments Thanks, Ellie.
Something is not working.
When searching for אקונין, I get all of the books:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

But when clicking on the author's profile (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...) I get only one book out of 10.

I've removed the author from one of the books and re-added, but it's still showing only one book.

What am I doing wrong?

Empress (the_empress) Hi Roee, currently all the books are showing.

Goodreads takes time to display changes done to books. Most changes will be seen withing 10 minutes but for example when combining books the ratings might take days to refresh. This is done on purpose as to not overload the servers.

These delays now are affecting the author profiles which means if you move a book from one profile to another it doesn't show immediately. If the author is added to the book correctly you don't need to worry about the author profile. It will eventually update.

See this comment and this one.
