The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
344 pages
This book was recommended as one of the top 10 books of the year for high school students. Also, several teacher friends have read it and loved it.
"Local Teen Accepts Destiny, Agrees to Become a Doctor, Stereotype"
She starts the book with a chapter titled Daniel, so I can assume it will be told from multiple points of view--or at least two points of view (like Legend). The first line reads like a newspaper headline, so I get a sense of sarcasm and rebellion against expectations put upon Daniel.

The Fine Art of Truth Or Dare
Melissa Jensen
"It was day three,Freshman Year, and I was a little bit lost in the school library, looking for a bathroom that wasn't full of blindingly shiny sophomores checking their lip gloss."
This scene makes me infer that the narrator is very unhappy at the school she is attending and is probably an introvert. She hopes to stay away from the "blindingly shiny sophomore" that surround the school.

The Runaway King by Jennifer A Nielsen
331 pages
"I had arrived early to my own assassination"
I picked this book because I red the back of it and it interested me because it was back in the medieval times. This made me think of where he had arrived. Was this planned or not this he show up to talk to a friend then they just sabotaged him and somehow he got away? This sentence made me want to keep reading to find out of how he got to that position where he was almost killed.

Andrea Hayes
310 pages
I picked this book because I was in Ireland last week and I saw this book and thought that it's time I needed a change. This book will help me change my life in a positive way, and prove my family and some friends wrong.
"I'm a big believer in setting goals"
She starts the book with her personal opinion, which makes me feel like it will be more of a walk through or her own opinion or outlook on life and the things in it. I never read a book like this and the first sentence honestly drew me in.

Empire of Shadows
490 pages
I choose this book because it is the prequel to a book that I really liked. It tell us about the main character's parents and how they meet.
"The girl with no name reached the steps of the building a little before Darkfall."
When I read this I was really confused because this is describing the main character and there isn't really a description about her. It does show that she is nameless/meaningless from where she came from due to the fact that she has no name. It also shows that she got to her destination, so this tells us that she does have a place to go, but not a place to go back to.

The Scorch Trials
James Dashner
360 Pages
I picked this book because I read "The Maze Runner" and it was a really good book so I just decided to continue the series.
"She spoke to him before the world fell apart."
This really grabbed my attention because I was wondering what happened and what the author meant by saying that. I wondered how was the world falling apart and what was going on or happened that the world was falling apart

Looking for Alaska
John Green
313 pages
My friend recommended it to me.
"The week before I left my family and Florida and the rest of my minor life to go to boarding school in Alabama, my mother insisted on throwing me a going-away party." The author makes you curious about where the character is going and why. It also seems like the main character isn't excited about this going-away party and just wants to leave.

Did I mention I need you? By:Estelle Maskame
Pg:335
I picked this book because it is the last one in the series.
"The water is cold, yet that doesn't stop me from wading into it, up to my ankles." I think she expresses how she doesn't care much about this and shows what moght happen later on. If she acts like she doesn't care the foreshadowing with creat a picture later on in the book.

An Embed In The Ashes
By: Sabaa Tahir
I picked this book because it was recommended.
"My big brother reaches home in the dark hours before dawn, when even ghosts take their rest. "
The first sentence gives off a kind of mysterious feel to start the book. It goes into details about how late her brother was coming home and just gives a kind of ominous tone right from the start.

House of Hades
Rick Riordan
597pg
I picked House of Hades because I've been reading the precious books in the serious and I am looking to finish the series.
"During the third attack, Hazel almost ate a boulder."
My first reaction was to read more because I wanted to find out why Hazel almost ate a boulder. My second, was trying to figure out where they where and why they where getting attacked.

Goddess Interrupted
Aimée Carter
I chose this book because it the 2nd book The Goddess Test series. I really enjoyed the first book so I will continue reading until I finish the series.
"When I was a kid, each fall my teachers had the class write and present one of those horrible " What I Did Last Summer" essays, complete with pictures and funny anecdotes designed to make a classroom full of bored students pay attention."
I know from the last book that she spent last summer watching her mother die. It tells me that her life is going to much different now than in her past with her having immortality.

Purple Hibsicus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
291 pages
I chose this book because my mother gave it to me as a Christmas gift.
" Things started to fall apart at home when my brother, Jaja, did not go to communion and Papa flung his heavy missal across the room and broke the figures on the etagere"
I can infer from this paragraph that Jaja is not as religious as his family and wants nothing to do with any religious practices

Unwind
Neal Shusterman
I picked this book because a friend recogmended it.
"There are places you can go" Ariana tells him, "and a guys as smart as you has a decent chance of surviving to eighteen"
I think that this first sentence all ready makes the book interesting and makes me want to read more. I think that the fact that it says that you have a good chance to only make it too 18 and they act like it's so regular starts to show the society they're in.

Breaking Point
398 pages
I picked this book because it is about action and sci-fi. I like this because this gets me hooked to the book. “The Wayland Inn was behind the slums, on the west end of Knoxville. I think this adds mystery to the book. To me this shows me this shows me this book will be thrilling and interesting all the way out.

Dare Me
Eric Devine
336 Pages
I picked this book because I like exciting books such as the title being "Dare Me."
"There is no doubt the one if us will die. I'm not hoping for it, just considering the probability: three of us, ten stunts each "death defying."
I thought about all the possible situations of things that will happen from the first sentences of the book.

Red rising
By Pierce Brown
Pg 535
I picked this book because the description just seemed really interesting. " The first thing you should know about me is I am my father's son." This first sentence didn't really grab my attention. It didn't create curiosity or made me want to keep reading.

Five minutes more
Darlene Ryan
212 pages
I picked this book because I read the back of the book and it seemed interesting so I decided I'd try it.
"I play the Five Minutes More game. Five minutes. I can stand anything for five minutes. Even my father being dead."
The beginning seemed normal until she talked about her father being dead which got me intrigued. Also the books starts with "autumn", chapter 1 and at first I thought that was a character name and that the book would be told from multiple perspectives. But reading the first couple pages I haven't met any characters named autumn so maybe the book is by season. So far I like it and the introduction got me into it.

Pogue's Basics: Money
David Pogue
275
I picked this book because I'm interested in learning how to save money and how to use it in the most sufficient way.
"Every single person on Earth would like more money."
After reading the first sentence I could relate to it. I thought that if someone didn't want more money, then they were a lunatic.

Do Not Pass Go
229 pages
Kirkpatrick Hill
I choose to pick out this book because I have read a Kirkpatrick Hill novel before and the book didn't look that hard to understand. "Deet tenderly wiped the drips of new oil from the engine of the Mercedes and replaced the dipstick." My reaction to the first was this person was obviously trying to repair a car. However, I was curiois to find out where he was and who he was with. From reading the first sentence I can see this Deet person must like cars in some way.
