Indrani Sen (iniya_books) | 966 comments Was the sacking of Mary Beth Brown (hope I got the name right?) shocking to you? I supposed her asking for a raise was "perhaps" not justified, but still... and the lady still did not speak out against him.. there is a chance that they were slightly more than boss-employee, because otherwise it seems "illogical"..

Finished it. Loved it. And waiting for the next bio on Musk. I'm sure there would be atleast one more on Earth at the pace he is going. And may be many more on Mars ;)

Yes it was shocking. May be asking for a raise was justified or may be not. We cannot know from the outside. Okay you don't feel the same way, so you deny the raise. You make things work out any other way. But to take that extreme measure was shocking.

The way Musk got easily irked with people, it could also be that he wanted to get rid of her anyways and asking for a raise just provided that reason!
Or he might be setting an example for rest of them!

We can only speculate. I didn't feel they were more than boss-employee... again we can only speculate.
And it didn't seem illogical as well. Think of it. Many important people who got fired spitted venom against Musk. Mary Beth wanted to do something out of the box :P :P

I don't know. Nothing is black and white in these kind of situations. Or is it? Can't say for sure.

Had it not been Mary Beth, the raise thing was sort of justified as a ground for firing.. Musk said that he would try and see if he could do without her and he could.. in that sense perhaps Mary overestimated her importance.. also Musk said something like she was becoming too much of a voice for Musk.. I guess both these reasons are compelling enough.. especially the second..

On the other hand Musk churned/burned through folks in an alarming rate and Mary Beth seemed to have lasted a lot longer.. However mainly because of the rumour that Musk's wife Riley got Mary Beth fired, was the reason why I thought of there being more to it.. lots of times these rumours are true..

and I agree that nothing is black and white.. and this is only a minor blimp in this juggernaut journey..

Oh yeah didn't account for Riley in this episode. More than employee thing does makes sense now. Why would Riley pitch in otherwise?

Will also look up more stuff on Blue Origin. Amazon has always been close to my heart.

Yes.. they poched merrily from Musk, na? :) :)

The high of this book persists.

Well, a closeness need not always be physical.. like Mary Beth even scheduled Musk's children's time between Musk and Justine.. she was that much in charge and confidence.. so this in itself could be a cause for jealousy/insecurity.

Riley's remarriage and then eventual re-divorce is difficult to understand from here (as in my Indian mindset). also her wanting a quiet life in UK sounds a bit funny. I mean that wish in itself is fine enough, but then why get entangled with someone like Musk, who is the absolute opposite of "small and quiet".

Anyways again these are unimportant bits.

I am going to follow Musk's news with much more interest now.

Wish there were more conversations with Riley in this book. Even the ones from Justine and her feelings about it seems to be lifted off her blogs.
Her dream of a quite life looks valid with Musk... in UK on Mars :P

Blue Origin is only into space tourism and making money out of it. Their missions are also focused on that. They stand nowhere near on Musk's vision and foresightedness!

Musk has started another company for the construction of 3d tubes underground. As per his unified theory, will be utilised for his hyperloop which he has decided to work on.
The company is named - "The Boring Company" :D :D
