Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Pre-Readathon
date

Tomorrow (Saturday, April 8th), we are having our very first of three pre-readathon Readathons. For this readathon, you just need to read for a total of 2 hours. Completely low key. It runs from midnight to midnight in whatever time zone that you live in. If you would like to participate, the sign up thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
For every pre-readathon readathon that you participate in, your name will be entered to win a 10 dollar gift card to Better World Books.
Additionally, the sign up to co-moderate is up. There are lots of open time slots so please, volunteer to help out the group for an hour during the official event. It is very low key. You don't even need to spend the whole hour on the group. You can just check in on it every 15 - 30 minutes. Or you could use it as a designated social media hour where you co-moderate the group and then cheer some people on in the blogosphere or twitterverse. If you would like to sign up for that, the thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
As a thank you for helping out, one co-moderator will be drawn for a 10 dollar gift card to Better World Books.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
Kate

I decided to take part but it was a bad day for me as I had big moving day that day and had the whole family around to help me move.
Post 1
I'm in. I have no clue if I will actually be able to manage as I've got my whole family around to help move into my new home. But if I'm lucky I should be able to squeeze a little reading in.
Post 2
Been sorting stuff since 7am but just managed to read 1/2 an hour now while waiting for the family to turn up. Hopefully I'll be able to read the last hour and half tonight.

Post 3
It is just after 11pm and I have to give up as I'm just too tired.
I have managed to read 1 hour and 10 minuts.
Reading Feathers and Sparks by Helen Winters
Very positive things from today. Most of our stuff is now in the house. Our bed has been build and it is nice finally to be in my own bed again. And really great was that we had trouble figuring out how to connect to our internet and my brother in law helped fix that.
All in all a great day but not enough time to read.

Well the first pre-readathon readathon was a much bigger success than I could ever have dreamed of. We had 220 participants! I am so impressed and proud of you all. The random.org number generator selected #39 to be the winner of this times gift certificate. Congrats to Carmen. I hope you find something you like.
Now I know that not everyone was able to participate with such short notice or that Saturday didn't have time. So the second pre-readathon readathon is now open for participation. This readathon is different from the first. The goal will be to read for 24 hours over the course of the next 7 days (you have until midnight Sunday pacific time zone).
I understand that this is a big ask of everyone as that does average to 3.5 hours a day. So in light of that, in order to be eligible for the gift certificate, you must read at least half the hours. But if you aren't able to make the full 24, you're not disqualified. This is suppose to be fun and encourage people to read. Even if you're not sure you can make that, sign up and just give it a go. That's less than two hours a day.
Because the very nature of this particular readathon is a lot more involved and longer than the previous one, I have created two threads for it. One is for sign ups ONLY. One comment per a participant. The other thread is for posting updates. You can comment as you go along or just have one comment you keep updating, the choice is yours.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The main thing is to have fun and get some reading in. Maybe pick up a book a read a little bit when you might have watched a tv show or movie or played a computer game or whatever else.

Finally, the last thing to talk about is the co-moderator sign ups. We have 14 people signed up so we just need 10 more. Don't worry about not having experience before in co-moderating. This is a lot of fun and really low key. I like to put on an audiobook while doing it. Anyway, no pressure, but if you want to sign up, the link is https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... . After this week, anyone who is signed up already and want's a second hour will be allowed to sign up for any open hours. I want to thank everyone who has volunteered to help out in this manner. Readathon is a busy day for me (as I'm sure you can imagine) and this really helps to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible and that this group gets all the attention it deserves. You all are a great bunch and so fun to interact with.
Thanks again and happy reading!
Kate

My total hours read this week: 18 hours 30 minutes

I know this is the last weekend before the readathon and so I want everyone to have plenty of time to either work on their prepping or spend time with family or whatever else you want to do. So there won't be a lot of reading required for this challenge.
For this challenge, you will be required to read non-stop for a two-hour period (stopping to use the restroom or get a snack is allowed). This is to try to prepare you for the long hours of reading come the 29th. So what you will need to do is when you start your reading you will need to post that you're starting on the update thread. And when you're finished you will need to post that you're done. As long as those posts are at least 2 hours apart, you're eligible for the gift certificate.
This post is for sign ups only! I will use a randomizer from here to pick the winner and then will verify that they completed the two hours of reading.
This readathon runs from midnight Friday in your local time zone to the end of Sunday in your local time zone.
***Audiobooks, picture books, graphic novels, articles, textbooks, other books are all permitted***
