The lightning thief has won many awards as a book. It has everything in it ; magic, mystery, adventure, and action. Written from the mind of Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson does not have a normal life. For starters he is a half blood which means he is half human half god. He is the son of Poseidon, the God of the sea. Percy is taken to Camp Half-Blood in New York, a camp for kids just like him that is safe from monsters that like to attack half-bloods. At camp, Percy learns more information about himself. When Zeus's master bolt (the thing that allows him to create lightning whenever he wants) is stolen, Poseidon is blamed for the theft. Zeus tells Poseidon that the master bolt must be returned to Mount Olympus by the summer solstice, or else he will declare war on Poseidon. Poseidon is miffed that his brother Zeus would even accuse him of such a thing. Percy,Grover and Anabeth must travel across the United States to try to find the Bolt . While he is on his journey he encounters some crazy things. Percy finds out that Luke, son of Zeus has stolen the Bolt and he must try to stop him. One theme in the book is Identity, this book is all about discovering identity. Another theme is Love, Percy's love for his mom keeps him going strong. The last theme is Violence, this book is full of action. One Quality in the book is symbolism, Percy was saying Gods names like they were just names from a phone book. Percy learns names are powerful things. The reason I liked this book is because it truly is incredible. This book deserves 5 stars.
