This is a fun read that everyone should read but especially lovers of all things 80s. I listened to the audio book read by Will Wheaton who is also mentioned in the book. A story about gaming but you don't need to be a gamer, like gaming or have knowledge of gaming to enjoy this book. This is the classic good vs evil story that made the New York Times bestseller as a hardback, paperback and trade paperback. It won awards; The Alex Award and the Prometheus Award. Reportedly by Wikipedia, a movie by Spielberg is on the way with a scheduled release in 2018. Should make for lots of sitting on the edge of your seat action. The story is set in a dystopian world, United States with characters hardly leaving the web for anything but eating and sleeping and probably not much of the latter.

Regina Lindsey | 1005 comments I adore all things 80's but I just can't seem to get motivated to read this. I also love dystopia. So I can't put my finger on why I shy away from it.

Please read it, it is so good. Really. I would rate it 5 but I am starting to bring down ratings for certain things that are my own issues. This book is highly entertaining and anyone who loves 80s should read it; it covers everything, TV, movies, songs, etc.

Susie I third her advice! Definitely read it, or even better listen to the audio.

Amy | 12933 comments I'm afraid of this one too. Everyone seems to love it and read it so highly, but I have the real fear that I will be the standout that won't care for it. It's going to be my last high note of the year. We'll see how it turns out.

I don't know, but if you do read this, I suggest the audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton. I enjoyed this a great deal, but would not have liked it as much in print.

I put off reading this for quite a while even though I was intrigued. I found it at the library in audio and decided to take the leap. Like Karin and Linda, I loved the audio and totally enjoyed the story.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I also put off reading this thinking the references would go over my head and it would be too "nerdy" for me. Ended up giving it 5 stars and LOVED the audio.
