I like the book so far. It's full of dry humour.

Great! So do I. It's quite brilliant.
I think this might be one of the craziest books I've read in my life, but very important.

But it shows the accurate reaction of people to the event. I think the "disaster" described is not a coincidence.

Still don't know what to make of this book...
I'm done as well!I loved it. Felt some of it a bit too long, but I think all three parts somehow came well together despite how seemingly thematically different they were.
especially after Herzog, the humour was much more easily accessible and I was grateful for that. It's always great when you can approach really dark topics with a good sense of fun:)
I would definitely move on to other books by deLillo, but I still have a huge backlog of Bowie group books I need to catch up on!

It is, isn't it? Which aspects did you like the best? I was fascinated by the dry humor that comes from the very objective descriptions of very subjective subject matters - the effect is is being very close and at the same time alienated from his world, like he himself is. And it works so well for people too afraid of death to be able to immerse themselves in life.Funny how Baldwin describes the white Americans exactly this way in The Fire Next Time. Maybe there is a theme emerging in some of Bowie's favorite books? Herzog was also a similar character, very detached from life.
I have finally completed this book and feel mentally tired. I often felt I was following some of the characters into insanity. The walk and talk between Jack and Murray had me wondering were we following two academic men have a quite academic discussion or was one friend inciting the other friend to murder? I'm glad to have read this book but am also glad that I have now finished it.
