Beth (k9odyssey) What impressions do you have of:

Mrs Hall
Thomas Marvel
Colonel Adye

Whitney (helloooooo) | 4 comments I enjoyed how Mrs Hall is the book's starting character. To me, she seems the most well-rounded and perhaps inspired from a real life person that Wells may have encountered during his travels. Mrs Hall is fussy with her employees and no-nonsense about her boarding business. And I thought it a unique detail that she is recently married. All the same, she doesn't cut her husband any slack. Gives him directions and tells him to mind his own business. It's a good start for a book, in contract to how the plot darkens and becomes suspenseful near the end.

Beth (k9odyssey) Great observation on Mrs. Hall. I had gotten absorbed in later parts of the book and forgotten about her strong presence at the opening.

Janet | 18 comments I agree Mrs. hall was a very important character despite not being part of the last half of the book. I would add that despite her sensible practical no-nonsense ways she was also wiling to withhold judgement and show some compassion until it was obvious the invisible man was a danger.
On the other hand I found Marvel to be the most comical characture. I'm curious about your take on the last page

I didn't expect that in some ways. I did think he still had the books, however I never thought he would be dreaming of decoding the secret. I guess it was the final driving home of the point that the lure of power is all powerful.
