About ten years ago I got book out from the library, it was marked as 'mystery'. I don't remember much about it other than I enjoyed it a lot and want to find it again.
What I do remember (at least I think) is that it was dark, it had racial themes being mostly set in the American south and it had some supernatural undertones (dark spirits or something). The protagonist was male, perhaps a P.I.
Hopefully this painfully vague description will trigger something in someone!
Haha, waddaya know? I just read the Supernatural Mystery thread a few posts down and I found it! It was Every Dead Thing by John Connolly. This group helped me out enormously without even trying!
