What were your thoughts on this book?

I personally really enjoyed it! I think the writing style was a little obnoxious but I eventually got used it. I really enjoyed the story overall even if it was a little lighter on the magic than I had hoped. What about you?

I just couldn't get over the writing. I have discovered that I can get past annoying characters but not bad/irritating to me writing. And unfortunately that brought everything else in the book down. The story was really good and interesting, but how could I rate something highly when it made me so angry?

And now that you point it out, I would have liked a bit more magic too. I think the description somewhat exaggerates what actually happens.

I understand, the writing is hard to get past. And yes the magic felt so underrated, I was hoping that it would have been a bigger part of the story since from the beginning it kept hinting at Gene/Micah's "ability to heal" or weird ability but then never fleshed it out until the end. That being said I still really enjoyed the majority of the plot without it.

Very true.

Aside from the writing and the story, what were your favourite and least favourite things about it?

Umm probably my favorite thing was Gene/Micah because I loved the self discovery that happened over the course of the book. And my least favorite thing was probably the lack of world building. I just felt like this was supposed to be a fantasy but there were never explaining on stuff within the world that we needed to know. What about you?

My favourite thing was the diversity and self discovery that Gene/Micah went through too. And I didn't like the fact that they were in a sexist world but nothing was really done about that, it wasn't even discussed that some of the things that happened/ they had to do weren't right which sort of says that that kind of world is acceptable.

Yes the diversity was definitely my favorite thing about it! and yeah the world was incredibly sexist and I kind of hoped that it would be challenging that a lot more than it did. I have hopes that later books would but for the first one it still should have challenged that idea instead of just leaving it be.

Exactly! Because I don't think I'm going to read the next books so I will just be left with an un-combated sexist world.

I may continue although I'm not quite sure because if the things in the world don't change I'll be really upset.

Yeah, if you stop here you can imagine that everything is changed for the better...
