About a girl that falls in love with Richard and possibly eventually has his baby. I think she is disguised as a boy most of the book, and her name might be Jo. I think this was the first in a trilogy and possibly had the word Lion or Leopard involved. Read it in the mid 90s but suspect it was written in the 8ps

This sounds like The Shield of Three Lions by Pamela Kaufman, the first in her Alix of Wanthwaite trilogy, though the heroine's name is Alix, not Jo or a name similar to that. In the first book she follows Richard on the Crusade dressed as a boy in an attempt to regain her family's lands along the Scottish border. In the later books, he asks her to be his mistress and have his heir. First published in 1983.
