mrbooks | 1469 comments If you want to see a bad job done on a SK book look no further then the made for TV movie of the Stand. They really did ruin a chance at a excellent three part movie from that one book. The problem is they tried to cut corners and cut the story to ribbons. Mind you it hasn't stopped me from watching it, it like a train wreck you can't seem to stop watching it no matter how bad it is.

Neil Melville | 2 comments I mananged to stop watchng it. I had to turn off the TV adaption of The Stand because it was so awful. I wouldn't have too many concerns about the second IT film appearing given that the trailer for the first one is now the most watched trailer of all time. I think it looks great. At its heart, IT is about courage, childhood and friendship if they get that, we're in safe hands.

Jay (modded-merman) | 5 comments After watching the trailer I'm very nervous about this film.
It is one of my favourite books and I watched the film at a young age and for a while it was my favourite and very first horror film.
although I haven't seen it in a while I remember specific parts that were so haunting, and the trailer only makes me apprehensive that they'll use cheap jump scares instead of using pennywise's character, that in my opinion is twisted and almost playful until provoked.
but that's just my opinion and take on him.
Hopefully the movie is reflective of the book, either way I'm not sure I could sit through it :p films will never be as good as books to me

message 54: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments I agree for the most part but there is a Stephen King film that nearly mirror images the book. The Green Mile fantastic book and film. From what I've seen of the trailer this version of IT looks like it is going to be along the line of verging between great and Fantastic.

ElleEm | 260 comments I sure hope you are right mrbrooks! I am very excited for this movie and I have high hopes. The trailer really does look amazing.

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments Neil Melville wrote: "...given that the trailer for the first one is now the most watched trailer of all time. I think it looks great."

Wow. It outdid the new Fast and Furious trailer, which is surprising given that I expected F&F to have a more global following.

message 57: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Esse, although fast paced movies like The Fast and Furious have appeal for some people, more people are attracted to horror movies. If it has Stephen Kings name attached to it, it can't fail to attract all his loyal fans and all the fans of horror movies and it spreads by word of mouth.

message 58: by AMiddaugh (new)

AMiddaugh | 4 comments I'm really excited for the 2017 remake! I am concerned the movie will go for jump scares, and I was surprised to find out the movie would be cut in half. I liked the casting decisions, and I think the costuming and make up for the clown are really cool despite the inaccuracy. I'm excited none the less, and am looking forward to September 8th!

Dan (dan2345) | 170 comments I love the trailer, I think this is going to be an awesome movie. Very creepy stuff. I have It by Stephen King , but haven't read it yet. And while watching the trailer, I was wondering about what you guys were talking about too with the not showing of the jump back and forth from when they are adults to when they were kids. I haven't read the book yet, and even I knew it was in there. Well if it is told in two parts, I think that would be cool as long as the movie is good. And I do feel like I need to read the book first before seeing IT.
LOL. Wasn't it last year that some of you guys were talking about how the original TV mini-series was kind of silly and watered down compared to the book?

message 60: by Steve (new)

Steve Parcell | 176 comments I fear you are right Matthew but the trailer does give me hope. If they are going to explore the events that occurred to the Loser's Club when they were kids in one film and then devote the second film to when they were adults, they may do it justice.
It would be better if it were done as seamlessly as the book but perhaps Hollywood might surprise us and actually do justice to a fantastic book by our favourite author.

message 61: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 25 comments Yikes!!!! Can someone please catch me up???

I adore Stephen King's writing & I've liked most of the movies (cheese factor & all). I really liked 'The Dark Half', 'Cujo', 'IT', 'Stand by Me' & what was done with King's work to create 'Silver Bullet' & 'The Mist' was good.

Those are some that come to mind with fond memories

I must admit that I've been waaaay out of the loop on current events. I've been working 50 hours/week & then sleeping a lot but now I have more time to myself. So are they remaking 'IT'?

Maybe they should've done the movie like 'The Stand' was done (but better). That movie had TONS of potential with a great cast & awesome story. It's not one I'd like to watch again anytime soon.

King's appearances in his movies & almost consistent mention of some kind of narcotic (real or made up) are some signatures I admire.

So how's this 'IT' coming along & is it any good?

Please forgive the absence of this topic.

message 62: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Hi Sheri, from what I have seen of the trailer it looks like it is going to be a fairly good movie, but only time will tell. Go online and watch the trailer and let me know what you think. While you are at it watch the trailer for the dark tower as well I'm going to be looking it up at work tomorrow and have a sneak peak at it.

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Sheri wrote: "Yikes!!!! Can someone please catch me up???..."

Hi, Sheri! Yes, we are lucky enough that not only are we getting one IT movie in September, we're getting a second one later on! King said the one coming out this year is more of a Part I.

Some people in this thread have been upset that the timelines will be split kids/adults instead of alternating unfolding like in the book, and others think its a great idea (myself among them), but on the whole we all seem to agree we're excited!

I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with ~4 hours as apposed to the miniseries which was only 3 (I rewatched it last week and my only criticism is that it should have been longer to fit more of the book in). I do wish we could still keep Tim Curry, he blew it out of the park!

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments mrbooks wrote: "I'm going to be looking it up at work tomorrow..."

Haha, mrbooks, I was trying to watch it on my lunch break at work today and it wouldn't load! I was so frustrated! I wish you better luck!

There's a discussion thread somewhere in this group for the Dark Tower movie (which I imagine has exploded with comments today), you should let us know what you think after you see it!

Dan (dan2345) | 170 comments Since we're on the topic of The IT movie being split into two parts (and I don't mean to throw us off topic) I read a while ago that the upcoming film version of The Stand will be split into four parts.

message 66: by Steve (new)

Steve Parcell | 176 comments Personally I am willing to give the IT movie split in to a go but The Stand could and should be split in to 3 movies.

message 67: by Summer (new)

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments Dan wrote: "I read a while ago that the upcoming film version of The Stand will be split into four parts."

Oh, wow. I didn't know they'd moved forward with a new movie. I think that's a story that would do better as a TV show than a movie, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with it. I'm pretty easy to please, though. I think I'm one of the few people who liked the miniseries, aside from the casting of Frannie. I like Molly Ringwald, but that seemed an odd casting choice.

message 68: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments The Stand as a mini series was alright they had some good actors but the directing and scripting left a lot to be desired. I was highly disappointed in how they portrayed the Trash can man, what little they showed of him.

Mother Abigail was a good choice and they portrayed her well, but she is one of the very few they got right. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy watching it but it didn't have the wow factor in my book.

As far as the Dark Tower trailer all I can say is WOW. I hope the portray the rest of the series as well as they did the trailer. I can't wait for August and the release. I also watched the trailer for the Mini Series of The Mist, I'm in two minds about it. From what I've seen of the trailer the only thing in it that is related to the book the mist, is the Mist.

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments mrbooks wrote: "From what I've seen of the trailer the only thing in it that is related to the book the mist, is the Mist."

I think someone on the boards mentioned that it's intended to take only the premise of the story and focus on new characters. It's an interesting choice; not quite sure how that'll all play out.

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments mrbooks wrote: "-the only thing in it that is related to the book the mist, is the Mist. .."

Hahaha!

message 71: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments I'm not so sure this is going to work I mean to me the mist is not just the mist it is the monsters both in the mist and within our selves. To me it is the breaking down of society and the destruction of our morality.

No, when was that released?

message 79: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Stan is the most under rated loser in the losers club I always feel he is just around the corner from fining his true strength and realizing his weakness is not his but a weakness given to him by first his mother and then pressed home by his wife when he grows up. I almost wish they would never grow, I preferred them as children. I feel sorriest for Mike.

message 80: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Personally SO excited for this. Glad they're taking it in their own direction. I've had the chance to talk to some of this new cast and wow... it's gonna be awesome!

That would be fun to attend.

message 83: by Steve (new)

Steve Parcell | 176 comments All the new trailers have been great. The film seems to be a lot more faithful to the source material than the 1990 mini series. I know this was hampered by being made for TV and rated PG but I just felt it was too sanitised and is now very dated. Tim Curry was good but a little too goofy for me whereas Bill Skarsgard is spot on. He seems truly terrifying laced with black humour and menace. The mini series also missed out very important characters like Patrick Hockstetter who are crucial to the story and the depravity of Henry Bowers and his gang.

message 84: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I just finished the book and I thought the mini series was spot on. In fact I've been meaning to get out my copy to watch again before the movie comes out.

Finding the original IT (made for TV) is tough. I found out though that they are going to finally release it on Blu Ray at the end of this month in a set called King of Horror

Katie | 9 comments I'm pretty psyched about this movie...my husband and I pre ordered our tickets for Saturday. The previous look great. I'm a little nervous because I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant and my mom keeps 'joking' I'm going to scare myself into labor. I did not laugh!

I'm fine with them splitting this. IT was a very long book and I think they would have to cut too much out in order to squeeze it into 1 movie. I can't wait to see who they cast for the adults.

message 91: by Summer (new)

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments Katie wrote: "I can't wait to see who they cast for the adults."

Ooh, that's a great question. I'm terrible at fantasy casting, but I'm sure others have plenty of ideas. It might be fun to see Seth Green reprise Richie.

message 92: by Greg (new)

Greg (popzeus) Have booked tickets for Saturday and cannot wait. Haven't looked forward to a film this much in ages. Will hopefully restore a bit of faith in King screen adaptations after the shambles that was The Dark Tower.

message 100: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Very true Matthew, sometimes they wouldn't sell you a ticket if they thought you were younger then what you say you are, even if you have proof. Now you would be hard pressed to find a theater that will turn away those that are obviously to young to watch the movie. It's all about the money now.
