Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments I've found that I have much better retention when I decide ahead of time that I'm going to review the book. I mark passages that I think will be useful for the review, and I'm more focused and thoughtful when I read. I need to do this more often.

I too reduced my goals a couple of years ago. I was spending too much time reading and not enough time doing other things. The joy of sitting at home on disability. This year was the least number of books I have read in a year in my adult life - only 53 (14,438 pages) per GR. Guess I succeeded. I didn't succeed in reading the 65, which was my goal.
