Evil Queen Sf (evilqueensf) So I had this book in elementary and saw it again in Middle school. This was in the mid to late 80s. Sadly I remember nothing about this book except what the cover looked like and that I have to find it.
I believe it is a fantasy/sci fi book from the early 80s
So the cover is of a cat like being either gray or tan and he is wearing a red and gold brocade outfit that looks like its from the middle ages. He is in profile and I believe there is an arch over him.
I know it is nothing to go on but I thought I would give this a try

Thanks

Evil Queen Sf (evilqueensf) These are very close but not quite, the one I am looking for is a cat human hybrid kind but he is wearing similar clothes.

Was the book for younger readers, or more aimed at grown-ups?

I'm just going to throw out two maybes that are close-ish just in case something sticks -but these are all adult scifi not kid's books so you can ignore them if that doesn't match your book.

Turning Point (Sholan Alliance, #1) by Lisanne Norman Turning Point by Lisanne Norman
and maybe take a look at the Chanur series by C.J. Cherryh -they're from around the right timeframe but there's a bunch of different editions/covers and several books so I can't say for sure if there's a cover image that will match you'll have to check, but they're about cat people/aliens so maybe worth a look, like this one The Pride of Chanur (Chanur #1) by C.J. Cherryh The Pride of Chanur

Evil Queen Sf (evilqueensf) Sadly neither of those series are right :-( but thank you so much for trying :-)

Mary (marissa_214) | 131 comments I know this isn't exactly right, but this is the one that came to mind: The Town Cats and Other Tales

Probably not it, but just in case you conflated the cat and the kid...Time Cat

Mary (marissa_214) | 131 comments Ok this definitely isn't right but just popped up in the "readers also enjoyed" selection next to The Town Cats and it made me laugh. It's only 64 pages, but I'll put it up here anyway:
Shakespeare Cats

Do you think it's about time travel?

message 11: by Evil (new)

Evil Queen Sf (evilqueensf) I honestly don't remember, I really wish I did though.

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments Andre Norton had a younger chapter book series called Star Ka'at...I honestly don't remember what the cats looked like, but it might be worth looking into.

Star Ka'at series by Andre Norton - suggested by Kelly - https://www.goodreads.com/series/1206...

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Your description made me think of a book I was sure was what you were looking for, but of course I couldn't remember the title or author. I did some Googling around looking for cat-person covers, which isn't a bad way to waste time, and came across the book I was thinking of, only to realize it's not actually a match. I think I was confusing it with another book that's definitely got nothing to do with cat people.

Just in case, my book was The Guardsman by P.J. Beese.

While looking, I came across another cover that at least had a red uniform. It was The Battle Of Forever by A.E. van Vogt. The red uniforms are on a French edition, which you can see in the middle of the post here:

Evil Queen Sf (evilqueensf) These are all great but still not the one :-(

Adele | 1432 comments I keep thinking about Psion (Cat, #1) by Joan D. Vinge , first published in 1982 - but I am having difficulty finding the cover I am thinking of. The main character's name is Cat, but he doesn't look very cat-like on this cover.

Sounds like it might fit your description, when I read the series it was Guardians of the Three.
