I totally understand. I got my copy at a local bookstore in Australia for 12 AUD (about 10 US dollars). Without that luck, I'm pretty sure I would be cursing at the library now :)In an upcoming month, I will have three books I really want to buy. And all will be new releases, which means they will be expensive for a jobless me. I don't know what I will do. Perhaps go crazy??
I just wanted to report back that my library website stalking has paid off! I'm NUMBER ONE in line for the TWO copies the library ordered! WOO HOO!!!
Oh my GOSH! I think I just gave my dogs a heart attack!!! I was stalking the library website, as usual (there are still 3 other books I want, desperately, to read, after all!), and HOLY CRAP! Catching Fire shipped today (from the city next to ours)!!! (I squealed quite loudly, and my dogs freaked out...) If I had been thinking, I would have said I'd pick it up over there! It's only a 10 minute drive!!! EEEEKKKKK!!! They must have fast-tracked it through cataloging! I'm SO EXCITED!!!
I finished reading Catching Fire. I highly recommend it!(Not that I need to, most of you can't wait to pounce on it, I'm sure.)I cant say anything about the plot but it does end in another cliffhanger. And a huge Mt. Everest size cliffhanger at that!
Now the wait begins again!! I envy those who start the series later and read them back to back!
Clytan wrote: "And a huge Mt. Everest size cliffhanger at that!"Well said! Ahh I don't know if I can wait this long for the 3rd book! I wonder what the title will be..........
Wow! I started Catching Fire yesterday and I am about half way through. Everyone wasn't kidding when they said it was just as good if not better than the first. Reading CF after finishing Libba Brays trilogy is so refreshing. It is so hard to put down because each chapter leaves you on edge, so you have to read the next and next and next...
I finished The Hunger Games this morning and I have serious book love with it. Like most here I couldn't put it down and when I did I couldn't stop thinking about it. Katniss is just such a kick ass female character. She's strong, deadly, cunning, but still very vulnerable. I love her. I had to ILL Catching Fire because I refuse to pay almost $20 bucks for it at my local Borders store. :/ I'm itching to get my hands on it.
Oh gosh, Jackie. There's NO WAY you're going to be able to get that book through ILL for a WHILE. It JUST came out, and I seriously doubt libraries will loan it. You're probably better off harassing your local librarians until they purchase a copy... If all else fails you can hang out at your local Borders and read it in the store. Or I have a 40% off Borders coupon I can forward to you. I think it's good until tomorrow...
I have that coupon...problem was I left it at home yesterday. I think I may go back tomorrow and see if I could pick it up. I didn't think the wait time would be that long to be honest but I guess if everyone is clamoring for it then I would be last on the list. Thanks for the heads up. :-)
Jackie., I was on the wait list at my library but was getting impatient. I found it at Costco for 9.97 so I got it there.
i wish I had the money to buy books. Though right now I'm saving up for something much better than that! the only problem is I still have to get $9000.My story --> http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/3...
My blog about going to Japan --> http://emily-dragoneyes.blogspot.com/
So I ended up going to Wal-Mart. I got it there for $12, which is not bad. I'm so excited :-)DragonEyes...when do you leave for Japan? Sounds like an exciting trip.
I leave in March, but I don't know where I'm going quite yet. Whenever I find out then I have to go to the consulate and apply for a study visa (As if this trip hasn't already made me do enough paperwork!)I can't wait to go though! It's gonna be so cool!
I got this book for Christmas and finished it already. I absolutely loved it. I kept eyeing in the book store but couldn't decide if I really wanted to read about kids killing kids. Not really my type thing. So I thought if someone got it for me for Christmas I would read it. LOL I am so glad I got it. This is definatly a 5 star book for me.I loved how the author put these characters together with out it being to wordy. I loved Rue and Foxface. I even felt a little bad for Thresh when he died because he showed some of his humanity when letting Katniss go. I think the love triangle between Peeta, Katniss and Gale helps make the story good. If you didn't have that you would be missing out on how Katniss has to grow and figure out what each person means to her. We know how she feels about her younger sister Prim but other than that she is closely guarded; so I think in the games to see her feeling confused about Peeta and thinking of Gale was very necessary for the book. I can't wait to read Catching Fire. I'll be making that purchase soon. LOL
I had been waiting until all three books came out before I started reading these books, because I kind of hate waiting (although sometimes the anticipation is half the fun...) I started this book late last night (dumb, I know). I finished it this morning, and jumped right into Catching Fire, which I also finished... :) I needed a short break (to eat food and let my adrenaline settle) before Mockingjay, but I am absolutely loving these books!
I was definitely team Peeta after reading these books. I just loved him, and felt so bad for him when he realized that Katniss wasn't really there with him. I cried when Rue dies, and my heart just hurt for these poor characters. I also felt bad for Gale, because I figured he had feelings for her that she was halfway oblivious toward and he was watching her romance unfold with Peeta live.
I am still semi-shaking over the adrenaline rush these books gave me, and I can't stop grinning and feeling a little giddy with leftover excitement.
Oh, and all the citizens of the Capitol? I can't decide if I pity or despise them. They are so completely self absorbed and clueless, but that's how they grew up, so I don't know if I can completely blame them...
I read this book upon the recommendation of my roommate in university. The movie was soon to be released to theatres, and we wanted to go see it. I much prefer reading the book before watching the film, and I'm very glad I do that. The book was great, and very easy to get lost in. I devoured it quickly, and thought it very well written, exciting, and thought-provoking. The film was okay, but I think it could have been far better, especially at the end.
I love the Hunger Games books. It's been a few years; I need to reread them! Though I think I would have to take some time off work so I can devour them in one sitting!

But really, the reason I don't go to the bookstore is that there are FOUR books I really want to buy, and I have no self control. I wouldn't be able to stop with just Catching Fire.......
