Okay, so I'm not too far in, about 19%. So far I'm loving this, though, jumping through the different dimensions of London is so up my alley! I've just gotten to the part where we get to meet Lila, and I absolutely love her! And Kell so far as well, although I know this forbidden black market thing he has going on is going to bite him in the ass!

I totally think Kell and his forbidden black market trading is going to bite him in the ass as well...
YAY Thea, so glad you're liking this!
I am up to page 315 already!! This is a quick read, so interesting, and the pages are flying by! I love this sinister world. Its so unique and interesting, and I LOVE both Lila and Kell!

I hear you, Elora!! I had to put this one down for a few days but should be able to pick it back up by this weekend. I had a couple of other books wrestle me to read them first. ;)

I just realized I never got back on here to say what I thought!
Okay, I finished it a while ago, it only took me a few days, and I was struggling not to finish it in one day!
I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! One of the better fantasies I've read in a while. I loved the writing, and the style of writing especially. I just love VE Schwab's writing, this is only my second book of hers, and I have a feeling I'm going to love them all based on the writing alone.
What I really loved about this is how the writing style was so different from epic fantasy. It was almost a cross between an epic fantasy and a fast paced action/adventure or Sci-Fi tale. The very first part was a little slower as she set up the world for us, but after about 100 pages in, the book TOOK OFF! It was one thing right after another and I had NO CLUE what was going to happen next!
I also really really really loved Lila Bard. What a cool/amazing/strong/deep/interesting character! One of the best I've ever read. I loved that she was kick-ass, but also morally gray a lot. A little bit of an anti-hero. The parts of the story where we were following her and her adventures made me think a bit of Six of Crows.
This story was incredibly dark and twisted, and I loved that too. Like I said, I had no idea what was going to happen next, and I felt a constant sense of danger the last 3/4 of the book. No one and nowhere felt safe. Loved the suspense and nail-biting fear!!!
My only gripe is I wanted a bit more world building, and I wanted to know more about Black London. I had a feeling, though, that more would come to light in the next books, and I was right! I lot more info comes in the second book, as well as a few new awesome characters. I loved the second one even more! While it still read the same and had the same tone, it wasn't quite as dark I didn't think.
Just started the last book, and its great so far! This series (as long as it has a good conclusion) is going onto "my favorite series of all time" list!

I FREAKING LOVED THI..."
YAY!!!
I finally finished. Whew! For some reason I never really became vested in the story until maybe the last 100 pages or so. I did like Lila and Rhy, but Kell was just ok. Not sure why he insisted on doing those black market trades. I think maybe it's a matter of just not understanding him yet. Maybe he becomes more likable in book 2.
I have the 2nd book coming sometime next week. Hopefully I'll like it better. This first one was a good read, but not my favorite. But then again, it could just be my mood right now. It's been a rough month and I'm apparently only in the mood for rereads right now. ;)

I thought each book just got better and better, so hopefully you'll think so too! In the first one, the characters were good but not great, but I really enjoyed the world building and the fantasy elements.
In the second one, I LOVED Lila even more, and Rhy and Kell as well. We also get some great new characters.
The third book was really the book for Kell and Rhy to shine I think.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts!!
