Which book and I'll click the button. Does it matter? I have no idea. I suppose it makes a difference. I wish I knew these things!

Oh drat! Yes, yes it's the helpful button. I'm not very 'helpful' am I? Sigh. I need feeding.
Amy - this will take you there.

Thanks to both of you for buying the book. I sell so very few in the UK. And my reviews in the US are not so good, so Carole has made such a difference and my sales chart in the UK will have a bump on it at last. xxxxx to you all.
P.S. Hope you enjoy it.

Shriek! That's where we used to ho..."
Not Marlie Farm, we're the other side of Dymchurch in Burmarsh. Full on Dr Syn area though. The railway is still there, we've been on it many times. The Day of Syn still takes place every other year.

I've just fallen in: it's Groovy's book you're asking about, Amy. Sorry. I'll go away...
Amy, sigh, Dr Syn is that gorgeous, shiny little engine, isn't it? Oh happy days.
YEAH Anna!!! Helpful hits moves me up the ranks. I started in the bajillionth place five years ago and now in Canada I was in the top 500, Uk was in the top 4000 or 5000, and in the states I hover around 1900 to 2500. It's highly competitive. They will vote down my reviews to get me out of the number one spot on a book. Grady Harp is in to the top 50 , I think. Always vote for the people who review your book. Many of them do this because they get all sorts of stuff from Amazon. I will vote for many of my reviewer friends to surpass my review because they have supported all my books.
Everyday I visit every book and vote up any reviews that people have left. Once a week, I do the Goodreads reviews.
I want to add that being a high ranking reviewer on Amazon is an easy thing to do. Write reviews on everything you read and the more votes you get, the quicker you will move up. It is a way of getting noticed. People who like your reviews may be interested in reading your books. I think of the reviews as practice.

And now I always press the 'helpful' button. Except if I'd rather not have received the review!

They can be petty- but it's a fun activity. It has also helped seeing the view from that side of the fence as well.

Karma - or something like that.
Yep. My son and I got int he middle of a squabble between reviewers. They used to torture this woman named Harriet something- because they didn't believe she was reading the books.I won't tolerate bad behavior from anybody. Sorry, old school teacher here. It was my first experience with trolls. OMG they were ruthless. I started reviewing - I went on their discussion threads and they made other threads look mild- so I left and just continued to review. I like to buy the books, so Amazon will never accuse me of being influenced by the writer.
What I learned is that reviews really do help sell a book, and they don't have to be good. You should have some lower stars- that way
purchasers will trust what's being said. It's easy to spot the fake ones. They say things like "This book was the best! You will really miss out if you don't buy this book."
I write a review thinking what may make a person buy this book- I have very specific tastes and they run quite opposite of most people. I give a basic recap of the story, say what I think the theme might be- This should appeal to people when they read it. If they see if full of magic or atmospheric- it perks up their appeal. I rarely say that I loved it- why would anybody care? It's a bit like trying on a swimsuit or clothes. Here's how it looks- do you see something that appeals to you? (That should be in italics' but I can't figure out how to do it.)

And I had no idea that clicking the helpful button moves the reviewer up in ranks, and it's a way of thanking them. I'm going to remember that from now on.
CLICKED IT:)

I like your idea of leaving cards wherever you can, I want to do that but feel like I'd get in trouble if I tried. I've had this struggle of leaving my business cards at places because I feel like its either not the appropriate place to leave them or I'll get in trouble for leaving them.
lol I'm nervous when I do it too Justin. You'd swear I was an international assassin trying to stash them in secret, but I figure whether someone finds it and uses it or throws it out, they will at least see it and maybe decide to check it out. I'm like a week away from stashing a book at Barnes and noble lol. If I can only get someone to drop me from the ceiling suspended above the romance section....

Lol my uncle keeps trying to get me to set up a table outside Walmart. I told him I'd probably be escorted off the property for doing that lmao

Lolol. I always sold the most cookies, carwash tickets in school lol. Girl, I'm a pain in the butt.
Maybe you can contact bookstores in your neighborhood and offer them 25% if they allow you to place a table in their stores.

There's a simple Dutch proverb I live by: "Nee heb je, ja kun je krijgen" which translates to "Right now you have a "no", a "yes" is still possible" or "There's no harm in trying."
It TOTALLY loses something in translation lol.

You saw me?
You saw me?
Shriek! That's where we used to holiday with our children! Marlie Farm?
I grew up with those stories and then completely forgot they existed until I heard them on the radio. How can anyone forget Doctor Syn! Do you go on the little railway?
