I'm a relatively new librarian (3 months). Today I added a couple of 2nd edition books; the 2nd editions included a title change. I added the 2nd edition along with the title change as a new edition under the original title. This was done the same way as adding a new cover addition. Just want to check that I am doing this correctly. I reread the librarian rules and think this is correct. Only problem I see is that a search of the new title would show up under the original title. When trying to look at all the books in a series, only the original titles show up and you can't link the new titles. However from looking through the discussions, it appears that only the author can reset the default title. This would allow the new titles to show up as primary in a book search. I think I've done all that I can do, but it feels like I've left some things dangling. Do we ever contact the authors to let them know about the changes we made and options they may want to consider? In this case the old titles are not available for purchase.

Based on what you write here, you have added the new editions correctly.Personally I see no reason to contact the author about setting the default edition if it was not the author who asked for help with adding the new editions.

Thanks, I appreciate your support. JoAnn
I've been rolling this problem around for a few days now. I went back into the old name editions (which were the default titles) and put in a librarian note in the book description. It now indicates that the book has been retitled and provides the new title. I feel like I have tied up the loose ends so that a goodreads viewer will be able to find the new book.
