I have the feeling that at some point, after a long and tiring ride, after eating something more crunchy than it ought to have been, (sand is such a wonderful garnish, is it not?) Eugenides climbs down off his horse, staggers into his knot of attendants and loses his breakfast all over Sejanus's tunic. I can see Sejanus's disgusted and disdainful face, the other attendants all in various stages of horror and evil glee, and Eugenides apologizing...without meaning it at all. In the background Costis has the most stoic expression you ever saw, but inside he's trying veeery hard not to laugh.
Eugenides had to throw up for the last half mile, but he waited until he could revenge himself upon the traitor.
(My younger siblings, all staunch TQT fans, agreed that this is a very Eugenides thing to do. Sorry that the first headcanon I posted on this topic was gross.)

Hahaha that is so gross but also funny. I have to agree, definitely sounds like a Eugenides act of revenge.
