Watery ghosts. Two terrors in one. I've never been comfortable with the idea of drowning and the scariest stories I've ever read have been ghost stories.

Just finished Chapter 2 and jotted down some thoughts.
(view spoiler)[Re my last comment: seems like I won't be diving on my own after all - and NOT in a good way. Let's not go diving Owen... let's not take a bath ever again... it's showers for me from now on folks!

A baptising cult leader for a ghost with dead eyed disciples... freaky. That's one group of spirits there's no reasoning with and the names of the Chapters hint there's more to come... is this just the initiation? I'm reminded of Poltergeist II and can't get a certain hymn out of my head.

The 'baptism' rite is so evocative, an all-encompassing initiation into... what exactly...? I loved the descriptions of the 'bath episode'; the separation from reality coupled with a heightened perception of everyday happenings through filtered / amplified sound through water, then the view of the spirit world, just beyond Owen's reach but still deadly. So water is seen as an amplifier, barrier, gateway... a medium that connects two worlds.
