John LePere gave his life to save Cork. Were you surprised at his decision? What did you think of how his death was described?

Angela | 155 comments No. I had this sense throughout the book that he would end up dead given how there were so many mentions of his family having passed. I thought his death was very realistic and a fitting end for his character.

That was how I felt about it, too, Angela. There was something honorable about his death, as you say, fitting for LePere. His life was so tragic.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I was expecting LaPere to die but I was still hoping right up until the end that he'd live. He had a sad life but it made me mad. He didn't have a choice in losing his family, but he did have a choice in what he did with his life after those losses. He wasted his life, which is not what his family would've wanted. I hate waste.

Like you, even though I knew he'd die, I was pulling for him to make it, have another chance to turn his life around.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments The really tragic part is that right at the end his instinct to live did kick in but it was too late.
