I've been contacted with a request to find out favorite thriller or mystery books of this groups' readers for an upcoming Goodreads event.

Would readers of this group post their favorite five to ten books of the recent past and maybe a line or two of the reasons.

Thank you,

Eric

Sandy | 338 comments I decided to limit it to books from the last 2 years as it's tough enough to pick a handful.

Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton Great setting, genuinely kept me guessing, knock-your-socks-off ending.

Ragdoll (Detective William Fawkes, #1) by Daniel Cole Original, great MC, black humour

Brighton by Michael Harvey Atmospheric, couldn't put it down

Spook Street (Slough House, #4) by Mick Herron One of my favourite series & this might be the best of the bunch; so smart & funny

Ways to Die in Glasgow (Sam Ireland Mysteries #1) by Jay Stringer Again with the smart & funny thing

The Short Drop (Gibson Vaughn, #1) by Matthew FitzSimmons Intricate story & great MC

Tuesday Falling by S. Williams Original & compelling MC, fast paced entertaining read

I'll leave it there, so many more I could list.

Maureen Carden | 205 comments I'm going with books I've read or reread in the past three years.

Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton- English PC drawn into a search for copycat Jack the Ripper. Bolton is the QUEEN of twisty turny.

Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton- Same heartbreaking story, three POV in the far-off Falklands. Another that will have you re-reading the last chapter.

City of the Lost (Casey Duncan #1) by Kelley Armstrong. Hell of a crossover from romantic suspense writer to pure. d. thriller set in a lost town for those who need to disappear.

A Darkness Absolute (Casey Duncan #2) by Kelley Armstrong. Darkness descends on a lost Yukon town. Not all from the weather as a pattern of kidnapped girls emerges.

Murder in Thrall by Anne Cleeland. A sociopath/obsessive DCI and his fey DC partner solve some of Scotland Yards most difficult crimes. So charming. I also love Cleeland's lovely rhythm in her writing.

Daisy in Chains by Sharon Bolton. The charms of a serial killer in prison. We know who did it, but can the police keep him in prison?

MaryJo Dawson | 126 comments About 4 years ago through Good Reads I discovered Josephine Tey. Although she is best known for The Daughter of Time, my favorite is Brat Farrar, and it is also one of my top mystery favorites, period.

I am also a loyal fan of Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs, enjoying almost all of the books of that series very much.

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) Cop Town story of first female cops. Very realistic, and she researched her history of 70's in Atlanta, mystery is developed well and has quite a few twists

Save Me moral dilemma, does a mother save her child or the child who is the bully? This decision determines the whole tone of the book. When she finds the why behind the explosion it turns into a gritty read

A Perfect Evil the first in a series that has stayed strong. Her books are dark, gritty and doesn't shy from the violent evil of our society

Never Tell a Lie a pyshological thriller that has you reading with the lights on to a quick finish that will leave breathless
