Why do you read? Share your story here...

For pleasure, escapism, to be thrilled and educated. To visit different places on Earth in my mind. I love books and I love reading with a passion. Life without books would be so boring. Books open up new worlds and characters to me.

Michelle Dorn books take you to other places, experience other emotions, see other worlds. love reading.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Keeps me out of trouble, too.LOL

message 5: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Howard I read to escape into a new world or universe. Reading also allows you to be someone else for a short period of time and learn things about the world and experiences you mayn't have had.

Nancy DeMarco (NancyDeMarco) | 6 comments I love to be drawn deeply into new experiences. I love to become somebody else, just for a little while. I love figuring out mysteries and, once in a while, being surprised.

I also enjoy picking books apart and studying the technical aspects of writing, figuring out what works and what disappoints me and why. I'm kind of a geek that way.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a geek that way, too, Nancy.

Melinda Howard I sometimes dissect books, but usually only if I really hate them and feel vengeful.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I know the feeling. I've done that a few times with books that didn't meet up with my expectations.

Sheetal Dash (SheetalDash) | 32 comments To be entertained and enchanted, To have a vivid imagination,to momentarily escape from reality and the pressures of life.

It's amazing, we all read for practically the same reasons.

Kritika | 50 comments reading is escapism.its like an addiction, infact stronger than alcohol or tabacco addiction(though have never tried either).the feeling of being transported into another world is an out of the world experience, atleast for me.after finishing a book i sometimes regret coming back into the real world.and once i started i could never stop!

message 15: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (kourts) Imagination and seeing what people can come up with.

message 16: by Ishi (new)

Ishi Bhanot I read.. to escape. The world of books is a lot better than reality. Happy-endings are possible there. I read to believe that just maybe, something good, can happen in real life too.

message 17: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (kourts) Amen

message 18: by Jamii (new)

Jamii (jamiilynnmarie) I've always loved reading. I like how I can totally escape reality for awhile and live a whole other life. Wether it's happy, sad, scary, loving, or any other emotion, it's still amazing. You become apart of something greater for awhile.

message 19: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (kourts) It seems like she I read all my life problems seem to go away and I don't have to deal with them when I'm reading

message 20: by Jamii (new)

Jamii (jamiilynnmarie) Kourtney that is the best part of reading, your problems disappear for a little bit!

message 21: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (kourts) It's like a sanctuary unless it's like alliegiant and ruins the series then it just makes it worse

It has become a kind of compulsion for me now. Besides isn't it exciting to root for a particular character and even sometimes imagining yourself to be in the place of that character, and basically enjoying our lives vicariously through them?
