Sugar is considered to be a "whore"

I'm reading Sugar by Bernice L. Mc Fadden. Sugar can be described as careless because she doesn't care about what Pearl thinks of her. Pearl doesn't like the fact that sugar is always naked. Pearl and sugar are constantly arguing about the fact that sugar could careless of other people seeing her naked. For example, "Y-you think she woulda approved of you being a whore?". This explains that sugars mother wouldn't allow sugar to be having sex with men. I think that Sugar should respect herself more because she shouldn't have been naked in her house and having sex with johns in the first place. People nowadays don't know the importance of self-respect; instead they do the opposite. In my opinion, I think that self-respect is everything. If you don't respect yourself then others won't have the courage to have the respect that you deserve. What would you do if you were in Sugars position?
