Not really. By the time she put in an appearance, I had realized that she was still alive. Alex was an idiot here. It was not logical that she gave Melanie the benefit of the doubt to the extent that she did.
I was shocked because I really believed she was dead.
Yeah, this is when the book went sideways for me. Alex is pretty smart and Melanie hadn't earned this kind of loyalty and trust. Nathan certainly had and she gave him little leeway.

It was a plot twist for sure when she showed up but Alex giving her that much leeway wasn't something an investigator would've done, I would've had her watched or tracked so she wouldn't take off like she did.
I was surprised when she showed up at Alex office. I thought she'd be found somewhere else. The fact that Alex didn't immediately let Nathan know ticked me off. Melanie had been proven to be a liar and at that point she could have been helpful to putting Coghlin away. To help her disappear again made no sense to me.
