The story centers around kids discovering that just because you say you are a 12 year old on the Internet, doesn't mean you really are a 12 year old.

Like it or not the Internet is here to stay and every parent needs to understand that the Internet may be a dangerous place for their children. Conversely the Internet can be a wondrous cornucopia of information and delight. My personal belief is that the Internet has enhanced communication and increased the closeness of people. Look at Skype allowing families to communicate face to face across the miles. Kids who are playing the massive multiplayer games (MMO) may appear to be sitting alone in front of the computer but with headsets and microphones are communicating real time with their peers. All of that is good but keep in mind that all may not be as it appears on the Internet.

This story is a cautionary tale of concern and illustrates why it is important for parents to know what their children are doing on the Net and with whom they are doing it. I believe the Net is a good thing but parental oversight is crucial for the safe use of the Internet.
