Dealing with the past

Considering some of the themes we'll see in this story, do you think rejecting our past makes it easier for us to live better and more honest lives? Should the past stay in the past?

For those of you further along, how does rejecting the past work out for David and for Ada?

I haven't gotten very far, but already every time David's past is presented he is trying to avoid it or move past it or bury it under something new and better. I can only assume this isn't going to work out well for him.
