Getting To Know You!
>
The GRRRR!!!!!! thread
I am sending out kisses and hugs to anyone suffering. Amy, just by spending time with your kids is giving them attention. I wish I could come and give you a hand.
Sam, I hope you feel better soon and the meds stop their side effects.
Am going over to Medium to clap for you all.

Carole wrote: "Sam, I hope you feel better soon and the meds stop their side effects..."Thank you very much, Carole. Hope you are doing okay. Huge Hugs
Thanks Carole. It’ll be a better day today. They can help me flip pancakes. (Not religious, just like pancakes)
Oh... for those suffering in one way or another, my heart goes out to you and, like Carole, I wish I could help. The very fact that you are there, Amy, for your children is better than some children's childhood. Talking to them, listening and responding is worth a lot, so don't underestimate yourself.Big hugs for those struggling to smile.
Thanks Anna. I was one of those children with a dodgy childhood. My only parenting queues have been “what would my mum and dad do, I’ll do the opposite.” It seems to have worked so far.
I forgot to ring the doctor's yesterday to get my blood test results. Who forgets that kind of thing? I can only ring between 3 pm and 5 pm. I am trying to remember to do that today. You'd think it wouldn't be difficult.
Amy wrote: "I’m having a second attempt at taking the kids out for lunch."Do the kids have vacation now?
Amy wrote: "I forgot to ring the doctor's yesterday to get my blood test results. Who forgets that kind of thing? I can only ring between 3 pm and 5 pm. I am trying to remember to do that today. You'd think it..."Happens all the time. You're not alone. :-P
@Judy yes, they've got this week off. Our son has an extra day off on Monday and our daughter goes straight back on Monday into mock A Level exams. That'll be fun. I remember it well.@Dale You'd think people would remember something like that.
In any case, I rang, all the results I'm worried about are normal. How I avoided a diagnosis of diabetes with my family history and a recent blood clot at the back of my eye, I have no idea. So great, no diabetes, but I still don't know what caused the clot in my macular. I am clearly an alien.
Being a woman of a certain age, I now have to write that kind of thing on the calendar as a reminder.
I'm sorry. Those weeks suck. And, yeah, so far going OK. If I finish this proofread and send to my betas tomorrow, I'm still meeting my schedule. 2 down, 13 to go, lol.
You’re both doing better than me. I wrote two at the end of last year and haven’t published either. The second still needs a final chapter. Can’t find the impetus.
I took two months off writing last year, so I've been there. It all comes in cycles.I'm really motivated at the moment, though, so I hope it lasts!
I’ve done a few chats online with various companies where they just don’t read what the problem is. It’s like they’ve got set answers to things to churn out regardless of what the query was in the first place. Ok I’m calling this a migraine. My bad eye with the bleed is really sore today. I can’t find anything online that says a bleed into the vitreous causes pain. The left-hand side of my face feels congested. I’ve taken everything I have that I can take. I would like it to stop now.
There was me thinking of putting sunglasses on and going out for a walk in the bright sunlight we have today. I’m very contrary!
A cold head helps. Went out, it was cold, felt fine. Came back, eye is sore. Face feels swollen. Need a holiday.
Lol. Thread applied, hole gone. Got a cottage booked somewhere near Stonehenge this summer for 2 weeks. I feel like I could sleep for a fortnight before then.
Alex wrote: "Amazon is really grinding my gears right now. I contacted them about my newest release to ask if they could add it to the series page so it is more easily found by readers, and they're aware there ..."I'll add this to the mix. I received an email from an individual who attended the library convention held in Chicago. One of the conversations among those attending was the demise of Createspace. This month, Amazon announced layoffs in the Createspace division, and discontinued their editing and other services, which may be the reason for the push to load print books though Kindle.
As soon as I saw Amazon had their own KDP beta for print and had bought createspace, I assumed createspace’s day were numbered. Why have two systems doing the same thing?
Oh no. I didn't think about your case, Alex. I am hoping the layoffs don't include the actual printing staff. If they lay-off their trained staff and hire cheaper employees I believe we will see a decrease in quality. There is a skill that comes with calibrating ink on printers. Not everyone has an eye for it.
Since CS and KDP are both owned by Amazon, I would expect that KDP is using the printing presses owned by CS. I can't imagine they would go to the expense of setting up new plants.
Do you think they will discontinue POD services or do you think they will put it under a new Amazon banner?
Amy, hope the head feels better.
Alex, I hate the red tape too!

Alex, I hate the red tape too!
I think the same thing. But the people running the presses are just as important. They are responsible for the overall quality. I just hope Amazon continues to employ good printing technicians. Time will tell.
STOP TAKING MY REVIEWS AWAY AMAZON! Blah that's about it. I got a grand total of about 6 reviews over the holiday period, and I'm not even mentioning how many books I sold to get them, but like less than 1% of people leave reviews.... only to wake up and see that Amazon in all their wisdom decided to take 3 away. Thanks, Amazon, thanks for nothing.
They rarely come back. I think they are allowing only a certain segment of the population to review and even if readers write them, Zon is not allowing them to be put up.
I hope they continue pod being in New Zealand the cost is abominable they are not printing in Australia yet.My first book is being translated into Spanish and Chinese.
I will see what happens in those markets and will keep the Chinese put of KDP.
The cost of translation was 500 US.
Has anyone had their books translated.
Amy wrote: "It’s the same problem I have with promotion. Money. It always comes back to money."Ditto.
Alex wrote: "Angel wrote: "Sorry to hear about your mom, Alex. I hope she is recovering nicely."She's back home now, but they still have no idea what is causing the seizures other than that they're connected ..."
My heart goes out to you and your mom, Alex. Hopefully they'll find out the problem and fix it. My husband has seizures. And it's scary when you see a loved one go through something like that. We're not together anymore. We're separated. But when we were I took care of him and was there for him, made him as comfortable as possible.
Alex wrote: "Thanks, it would be great if they could do that, it's so draining not knowing if or when this is going to happen."Maybe they'll let you know sooner rather than later. Hope so.
Alex wrote: "And in a perfectly appropriate end to what can only be described as a pants week I have just got back from the hospital after spending the evening there with mum, who had another seizure, thankfull..."Sorry to hear that, Alex. I hope the best for your mom. Seizures are scary for those having them, and those to tend them.
Alex wrote: "And in a perfectly appropriate end to what can only be described as a pants week I have just got back from the hospital after spending the evening there with mum, who had another seizure, thankfull..."What is it with all the hospitalizations lately? Glad to hear it was only minor, anyway. I hope they can figure it out and help her.
Amy wrote: "It’s the same problem I have with promotion. Money. It always comes back to money."Babelcube puts you together with translators. You don't pay anything. They translate your book, Babelcube posts it on Amazon or w/e and you get and the translator get a royalty every time they sell.
Just another option.
I’ll add to the pants week. No, I’m not diabetic which is great but it also doesn’t help in explaining why I have this bleed at the back of my eye which is affecting my vision. I think I’m supposed to chalk it up to one of those things and wait for months until it hopefully clears. Also, I’ve completely lost the will to write or do anything related to writing because it seems pointless.
I’ve written two books that aren’t erotica. They are perfectly viable books. My fear is I’ll put them out there and I still won’t sell books.
Amy wrote: "I’ve written two books that aren’t erotica. They are perfectly viable books. My fear is I’ll put them out there and I still won’t sell books."If you don’t put them out there, you will DEFINITELY not sell any books.
Go for it.
Yes- and people have to get to know you- so they'll want to read your books. Amy- you made me start enjoying genres I never bought before. You have to keep writing. AND have you gotten any followers yet on Medium. I follow everybody and many follow back. That means your stuff pops into their feed, they read it and say- let me explore what else she's written. Amy - write about the jump from erotica to outter space and why.
